i have never tried one of those plugin such as canopener, but i have wondered about them. do you typically leave it on? i can imagine using one to reference every now and then, but i dont think i would leave it on by default.

    thanks for the input.
as long as it doesnt cause me problems i will give it time and effort before i decide.
the only problem i can see is me forgetting to bypass it when bouncing things. i am a new user to studio one but i think i can remember seeing a setting to bypass the master FX when exporting through the master channel, so hopefully i can just leave that active.

    edit:
yep, confirmed, that is an option in S1

@tun I am attaching the Studio Reference Whitepaper. A must read for users and detractors wishing to learn about the philosophy behind Sonarworks' technology.

Unless the DAW is the only program you listen to music with, I'd use the systemwide version.

not useful one headphones you have been using for a long time because your headphone signature sound is imprinted in your brain, your brain will still work with the old sound signature while listening to the new sound.
could be useful for someone who just starts mixing on new headphones but i see only more troubles applying the eq curve on a master output and mixing trough that.

I've found it a useful reference tool - firstly to understand and make you aware of the flaws (or not!) in your existing headphones, and secondly, to compensate for those flaws to give you a flatter response, so you can mix accordingly and create mixes than translate better to more systems.

It's about giving you some unbiased perspective on the sound, to help you. What you do with that tool, or that perspective and knowledge gained, is up to you.

My mixes translated with too much low frequency information. That's just my opinion.

i cant get systemwide to work with the latest r2r. i dont think its possible. for some reason you cant load a local headphone profile, you can only use the online profiles or your code for a custom one. the readme says not to load online profiles.
i think it might be by design, to allow people to trial the cracked version in their DAW maybe.

Ah, I see, I tried 4.4.0. Never delete the old install files when you update. :guru: :winker:

scratch that. i just tried again and i got systemwide to work fine. not sure what changed, maybe the fact that i restarted the computer.

i listened to one track using systemwide (so far) and i think this really needs me to send my headphones off to get right. there is a peak at around 8kHz, which i agree with, but it seems to notch far too much out and that area sounds good when mixed to about 60%, but then it boosts too much around 18kHz, which i fixed with an EQ in my DAW, so without that EQ i can only get a nice balance at around 30-35%.
i know my ears need to get used to it, but there is a clear notch at 8kHz, its a very distinct sound, i am not imagining it, same goes for the boost at ~18kHz.
the bass area i am willing to accept could be a matter of taste, but it does sound very dead down there. its hard to really listen to that with the distraction of the 8 and 18kHz adjustments though.

i think i might end up using this for reference only. i will definitely give it more time, but i feel like i am swaying away from it so far. its disappointing, i was excited to try it.

updated OP to correct information about systemwide not working and a possible solution for people with the same problem.

Works great on itself, but I'm using it like another sonic perspective to compare my mix against other mixes in different scenarios. To further clarify myself, if my mix sounds good with and without Sonarworks, then it is a good mix indeed. :)

Well, i don't use headphones to mix, only checking mixes, but i am a fan of Sonarworks. They got it right. Many of my clients' mixes have improved due to Sonarworks and i have tried it at home too with various headphones and it's definitely a benefitial plus.
With that said, nothing beats a Focal Utopia headphone set, only its price lol.
