I use maschine and there are no mono tracks (why?)...i know mUtility can do it but i don't want to download their entire free kit and deal with the nag screen

is there a simple freeware option?

I find the free Boz Panipulator to be really handy (allow to choose from left, right or sum to mono with different pan laws, flip L&R, reverse polarity) with a 1buttton/1 function GUI. Great simple tool

So hardcore and barebones that there's no GUI at all. Just slap on LeftoMono or RightoMono, depending on which channel you'd like it to keep. Is "lossless", at least compared to normal L+R downmix to mono, where you'd null out all the side information.

 

I use DMG Audio's TrackControl*constantly, especially when recording for a quick Mono track, to pan (including M/S panning, which is invaluable, for me,) to do pre-EQ HPF-ing, or just use it as a gain-staging tool. It's simple, sexy, free and It's The Best At What It Does. Highly recommended.
