Firstly i do not own any hardware synths myself, but I have been wondering for a while how this is achieved. So lets say you have 2 hardware synths. Each have a midi in/out connection and each have a left and right output. You would need a midi interface, lets just say something like a MOTU MIDI Express 128 which is what the studio I was in was using, to take the midi in/out connection. But how do you connect the left and right audio outputs from the synths themselves. Lets say you have a small audio interface with 4 XLR inputs and no 1/4" jack inputs. Would you have to get a small external mixer to take all the 1/4" cables and then connect it to your interface or how would this be achieved?

DI Box is what you want!! Hook up your synths to the DI. Then use the XLR output to go into your audio interface

xlr to 1/4 jack cable.

thats probably the easiest way.

however i have no idea what a DI box does, are they necessary to bring impedance down or something?
