I have been developing this chain for quite some time , I only mix myself so I dont really change anything I just record my vocals and I am good to go , What is your vocal chain ? do you do something different you would like to share ?

Interesting you have all that on a bus for vocal, rather than the vocal channel.
I guess you have more than one vocal you send to it.

 

If you want crisp, clean, and clear vocals, this is the only vocal chain to go with:

A little eq, a little verb, maybe a little doubler or echo depending, a little comp, done! And de-ess if necessary.

@odod Not always, but I would mostly recommend EQ before comp regards the standard low end cuts, because it's less for the comp to deal with. And always set up reverb etc on a bus, rather than have it on vox channel.
Depends what you're going for though, I suppose.
I like to have total control of eq and comp of reverb on a bus.

 

ahh i forgot to mention the sequence though, yeaa of course the EQ --> Comp (or sometimes a channel strip too such as Schepsomni) --goes to Sonsig Reverb on a buss .. and yeah it is depend on a situation too, however a good audio source will less problematic

 

Ah okay. Just thought, because the op mentions "chain", that you were putting it all on the same channel!

Mine at the moment is:
1. EQ for low end cuts.
2. Comp
3. EQ for coloring
Or just a channel strip.
Reverb/Delay is on a bus.

 

With the right microphone (you didn't list the first thing in a vocal chain which without there is no vocal at all) and singer with a semblance of mic technique you wouldn't need an encyclopedia of compressors, de-essers (although some vocalists are like ssss factories and quashing them is all but mandatory), equalizers and the like to make it fit into a mix. Unless I'm looking for using a vocal as an effect I prefer to keep it simple. Every added bit into the food chain compounds and raises the noise floor, especially comps and limiters. You then need to play whack-a-mole (sorry mole friends) and deal with gain staging up and down the line. Of course one can use a templet that loads for every session, but my feeling is that every song, band and project is unique and a cookie cutter approach diminishes the art of the mix and lowers the standard to more akin to factory work. Saving time is many times of the essence though and time many times equates with jingle jangle in the piggy bank, though preconceived notions can hinder the fresh creative ideas that blossom in thise moment when the Muse comes to kiss your neck and stirs your blood to reaction.

Mine usually is something like this...

Gefell UMT70S > Warm Audio Tonebeast\GA Pre 73 MKIII (the gap for color if I need it, the Carnhills transformers in and out lend some excitement, or with narry the gain and cranking up the output for a nice clean) > Warm Audio 76. Lots of times that's all it takes. If I want to smooth it out a bit more I'll either tack on a Klanghelm DC1 or the TDR Kotelnikov which are both free and easy. My computer which is in an Ikea wardrobe with hanging shirts above it to sop up some bandwidth still seeps into the room and creates a bothersome noise floor which precipitates chopping out bits between vocal lines or using a gate which I don't particularly favor using on sparse arrangements or quiet tunes. The extra compression only accentuates that so I try to stay away. If I do use any EQ it is the one built into the channel of FL Studio which I have been using since version 7. I generally just sweep the low end on the vocal track and cut to taste or use the pass on the preamp or microphone. I can get right up to the Gefell as it hardly has a proximity effect which is cool because I can keep the Preamp gain lower and not pick up much room. I rarely use the center sweep of the channel EQ to add a touch of whatever I would like to stand out on my voice compared to the rest of what's going on in the tune unless I have to, cutting away from the other stuff is much preferred by me unless it is a spare arrangement and cutting will alter the personalities of the instrument's. I never really find that I need to do narrow boosts or cuts, so the broad bands of the channel EQ is fine enough for my taste. I use Vovox cable in and out which I all bought for pennies on the dollar. Vovox cable is built like a brick shithouse and without hardly any maintainance beside detoxifying the stecker should last until the world ends. They were well worth my investment.
