I have been running kontakt for years and have never experienced this. I just installed kontakt portable and batch resaved everything on my brand new incredibly fast PC. The plugin opens immediately, as soon as I throw a library in (even the smallest one) takes 5 minutes to load. It does not even show that it is loading the files, it just freezes then pops up 5 minutes later. I have tried reinstalling kontakt portable but no luck. Anybody know what could be the problem? Any insight would be great. Thanks so much.

Have you got a load of libs loaded in Quickload? That can really slow things down, as recent Kontakt versions seem to constantly want to index whatever you have in there.
Also, the first time you load up a library in Kontakt is always the longest. The next load up will be quicker because Kontakt knows the file path.
So, seeing as you've just installed a new Kontakt, this may have something to do with it.
5 minutes for a small lib is a long time though. I hope you can sort it.

Cool. Sometimes after installing new software it pays to shut down and then boot up again, instead of go ahead and load lots of libs!

Hey Smoove! Im having a similar issue! I have tons of Libs in Quickload and every instance of Kontakt I open, or even (in Ableton) when I close and Re-open the kontakt window it gives me the "thinking progress wheel" for quite a while. Do you have any recommendations on what I could do?? I could use the "Files" Tab to load them but I would have to completely REDO my "Quickload" organization which is MASSIVE. But yeah any tips?? :dunno:

    Hiya! @Kintek 2001
It sounds like your Quickload is massive, yeah! And that's what bugged me; the fact that a project may already have an instance of Kontakt open, but a new instance will instigate the indexing again!
I can only suggest that you whittle it down to the ones that you use the most, and employ the Files tab for others.
Anything that's in the Library Tab can go from Quickload, obviously.

Avoid putting your libraries on the system drive. If you can (in case you have multipe drives connected), try to distribute your libraries in more drives.
Also see if you are running Kontakt as administrator.
It can also be problem of Windows or antivirus software running in the background.
Whenever you experiment this issue, go to Task Manager and check what is running so heavily your CPUs.

I don't know if this will fix your problem but if you block Kontakt Standalone with your Firewall and add an exception for your DAW folder and for your Kontakt libraries folder on your AV can speed up Kontakt launch and read your libraries faster. Note and I agree with the fact that the first launch of Kontakt always takes longer to open.

I've not launched Kontakt before taking this little video and I was Online.

All of this was very helpful thanks! I think I figured out a work around to my issue! You can navigate to where your Quickload folder is located and copy it to whatever drive you have your Libs on and VOILA!
The Quickload folder/Organization opens in your "Files Tab"! My Quickload (even with my massive folder structure) HAS VIRTUALLY Zero load time now!

Im on MAC so I can keep saving Libs to my drive per usual, then make my own Alias files and save them to the new Quickload Folder I made without ruining my current perfectly organized file structure.
Also if you click "View" The "Lock current quickjump" option comes in very handy!

Then you can trash the entire "native" Kontakt Internal Quickload folder so it doesnt load anything or slow Kontakt.

Just wanna figure out how to only have Kontakt show my Lib drive [Battle X Drive] instead of ALL 6 Drives I have running.

    Perhaps in Kontakt 7
Write NI your suggestion and let's see if it comes true.
