I have various Cinesample Kontakt libraries and downloaded some updates recently from sister site.
Unfortunately running the updater gives an error that the product is not installed.

True,I never "installed" those libraries, as they came in "drag & drop" form.
So, I wonder if there is a way to install the updates...

I am running Kontakt portable 6.2.1, and keep my libraries on a seperate drive.
I thought i might extract the installers and place the files manually, but it seems tricky.
I extract the main update installer using winrar, then extract the next level installer with Inno Extractor.
Looking at the file & folder structure I hesitate to attempt manually placing stuff.

I wondered about installing the non-portable version of Kontakt and scanning to get the Library info into the registry where the Cinesamples update installers might find something, but before I do that I hoped someone might know a trick... Thanks!

I could try that, using the "no install" way. Tell me which ones and I'll try at least one to see.

Well, the updates are: Cinestrings Core v1.4.0, Cinewinds Core v1.4.0, Cinebrass Core v1.8.0, CinePerc v1.3
But I was not requesting a lot of work just for my situation (but of course i do not know how much work it is).
I think ... if many people are in the same situation it would be great to just have a registry key that could be imported that tells the installer that the library exists- haha!
I ought to be able to pull out the right files to drop into the existing libraries

installers need a regedit key location to know where to extract
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Native Instruments\Cinebrass
    ContentDir "x/anywhere/Cinebrass"

    etc for any library
portable don't use regedit, the setup version does.
you have to use a valid key name as it is writen in native access.
    Cinebrass
    CineBrass Sonore
    CineHarps
    CinePerc
    CineStrings CORE
    CineWinds CORE

You can unzip the exe's and extract all the files inside. Then you can manually copy the upgraded files to the correct location.

    True.
Besides that, being an update perhaps you also need the <LibraryName>.xml in the regular Native Access folder.
I also wonder if they look in the other registry entry, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Native Instruments

    Thanks for the replies.
I may install the normal Kontakt and run that to write library info to registry.
I can't recall how many other updates will want registry info, so it may be worth it.
I was running Kontakt portable along with Kontakt 5.x.x and think I therefore had all the libraries logged in registry.
That may be a simple and elegant solution..

no xml is needed, it is used by kontakt to manage libraries.
the HKCU will be added with the "library name" by the update setup if missing.
there is no serial check ou anything like this.

only native access check the version number for applications from the InstallDir content, reading dll, exe, aax.
otherwise it use HKLM ContentVersion for sound content

Kontakt 5 use HKCU for sound content
    Kontakt 6 use HKLM

you should update all to 6 directlly. it can take all if you know how to. new libraries need the last version. it is useless to keep kontakt5.(only if you archive old project using it)

Sounds good. I installed the normal Kontakt 6.2.2, Ran the "Add Library" to logmy Library in the registry, and now the updates run fine.
Kontakt install is a breeze (thanks r4e!) and is easier than extracting and placing.
I tend to recompress updated libraries for archiving and just keep my Kontakt Library and Kontakt Portable intact, with it's self-contained database, but installing a normal version is good for this kind of job!
    Thanks all!
