    Hello all,

    I've recently needed to re-install my DAW computer (Win7 64) and I' also needed to retouch some old CD-Architect based projects. The CD projects load fine with the exception of missing waves directX plugins. I know this is an older format, any idea on how to re-install these? I have a more recent waves install, but it does not appear to contain Directx versions. Any ideas? Thanks for the help!

    You probably need to install that ancient Waves version - if this is possible on a Win7 64bit system.

    If you remember which version it was, you could look for it at audioz-dot-download.

    Update:I was able to find and install "Waves Mercury Complete VST DX RTAS v1.01" and run the "WaveShell-DirectX_Registration-Utility5.7". The CD Architect project now loads fine, but if I click on effect, nothing loads. I do see some waves plugins listed in the Fx Packages, though. So now, I have no effect settings. Maybe I'll try to reverse engineer the .cdp file to see if I can see some effect settings ?

    Great idea Thanks, but unfortunately the Event FX opens with "no plugins in chain", I guess I have the wrong plugin version?

    maybe... or wrong installation path... but as I remember DX plugins must be registered in system settings and daw calling them using that registered name. I'm not sure about this, last time I used DX plugins very long-long time ago (12 or more years ago)...

    open project file in hex editor and search for plugin versions (if project file contain this info). or any other useful info about plugins. maybe you will find parametres of each plugin and then just setting up newer version with tis info.

    I was able to open the project CDP file, and I can locate a single entry related to plugins:
    <Preset GenericType="LPEQ" Name="">
    <PresetHeader>
    <PluginName>LinEQ</PluginName>
    <PluginVersion>4.0.5</PluginVersion>
    <ReadOnly>true</ReadOnly>
    </PresetHeader>
    <PresetData Setup="SETUP_A">
    <Parameters Type="States">1000 -1 -1 -1 -1 -1 -1 1 0 -1
    1 2 0 489 276 475 1 0 504
    450 418 1 0 500 550 418 1 0
    500 630 418 1 0 500 793 418 1
    9 459 941 348 0 4 500 151 386
    1 0 500 342 386 1 0 500 532
    634 1 0 500 561 475 </Parameters>
    </PresetData>
    <PresetData Setup="SETUP_B">
    <Parameters Type="States">1000 -1 -1 -1 -1 -1 -1 1 0 -1
    1 1 0 500 294 475 1 0 500
    422 418 1 0 500 550 418 1 0
    500 675 418 1 0 500 793 418 1
    0 500 910 386 0 4 500 151 386
    1 0 500 342 386 1 0 500 532
    634 1 0 500 561 475 </Parameters>
    </PresetData>
    </Preset>
    </PresetChunkXMLTree>
    I guess I could try to located version 4.0.5 of these plugins (pretty old) or try to figure out creating a preset and loading it in a newer version, Or change the version number in the project file to one that I have here. fun, fun, fun either way..

    best way - install version 4.0.5 (or bundle that contain this version of plugin) and find version info for other plugins in this project.
    I don’t think that changing the version will help. maybe this will make the project unreadable.

    Anyone needs it here is a copy of DxShell

    This package contains the following:

    - dxshell.dll, a wrapper for directx effects(dx) for use in vst host applications.
    - dxishell.dll, a wrapper for directx instruments(dxi) plugins for use in vst host applications.
    - mfxshell.dll, a wrapper for midi fx plugins(mfx) for use in vst host applications, beware that not all mfx plugins may work with this wrapper.
    - shell2vst.zip, a small tool which is able to convert so called "shell vsts" to standard vsts.
    - this readme.txt

    How to use:

    1. Copy the dll files to your vst plugins folder.
    2. If your host directly supports shell vst you are ready to use them from now :), if not you have to convert them at first with the shell2vst tool I mentioned above.

    Currently the following hosts are supporting shell plugins, perhaps there some others too:

    - Cubase SX
    - Renoise
    - Kore2
    - Temper
    - Reaper
    - Buzz
    - Tracktion
    - Aodix
    - Vsthost

    Changing the version number for the waves plugin in the CDP filw didn't help. The project loads but the Event FX opens with "no plugins in chain". I'll give the dxshell a go, thanks thePirate for the info and the file!

    Did you ever make headway on this? Were you able to get the individual objects to find their associated plugins?
