    could you get a bit more specific ? I know it has just like, 3 or 4 basic stock plugins, isn't it, but what else ?

    what about this cloud sh*t ?

    from what I know there's no ilock required

    I'm not particularly excited by the product, it's just for me to keep an hand on it and keep practicing,
    Logic is my main daw, I'm close to power-user level, but it would be good to be able to improve on one of the industry standard

    23 basic plugins
    no video support
    yes, you don't need iLock Key (dongle), only iLock License Manager (hardware authorisation)

    you can see all restrictions here: https://www.avid.com/pro-tools/comparison

    I'm pretty aware of that

    that's practical feedback from users I'm looking for ( in addition to everything else I've already said above )

    thanks for yours @Talula, i haven't browsed through the FAQ yet, but a video about it popped up in my YT feed, and I wondered "why not",
    but the more I can get from people ( like me, btw ) who already have tested the complete version the better

    pro tools first is not a version of pro tools, is just an exposure and you have a glass of mirror in front of you that make you not touch anything

    @black bounty Pro Tools First is the kind of shit that makes people who can't afford AVID's strong arm robbery tactics, go to AZ and download Utopia's historic release of Pro Tools HD v.12.5.0.395.

    This is you trying to make some decent tracks with Pro Tools First:trashing:
    This is you after you find out what AViD wants you to pay for Pro Tools :wtf:

    This is you after you download Utopia's release :beg:

    This is you after you start using it :headbang:

    This is you when Pro Tools starts black listing some plug ins :crazy:

    This is you after 3 months :thumbsdown::suicide:

    I mean ... the ssh magic spell didn't work anymore on my mac since I "upgraded" to Sierra, so ... ( plus now, my upgrade is considered a downgrade by Apple :mad: )

    I have PT 12.8.1 on the Mac with a perpetual license that ran out in 2017. That wouldn't be a problem, except that 12.8.1 isn't compatible with anything above Sierra, and I'm wanting to upgrade to Mojave. In order to get the most recent version, I have to basically either renew my perpetual license ($600 a year, but you get to keep whatever you download for good), which kind of defeats the concept of a "perpetual" license, or throw away the idea of a perpetual license and just subscribe ($300 a year, and the moment you stop paying, you lose all the software you've downloaded). We won't even discuss PT HD/HDX. So I tried out PT First. The main problem there is, it only supports 16 audio tracks up to 96 kHz, 4 inputs at a time, 16 MIDI tracks and 16 VI tracks (which would be the same, no?) and no video support. It is free, but you pretty much get what you pay for. You're better off either forking over $300/$600 for regular PT or, even better, just finding a different DAW that has zero track limits, unlimited playback and video support. I actually love PT's audio editing and mixing capabilities, but their pricing structure is just fucking stupid. They've made it clear they don't want to deal with consumers anymore, just pro-level studios who can afford to buy their outrageously-priced shit.

    As a side note, somebody really needs to k Pro Tools/Pro Tools HD on both Windoze and Mac. That's the only way we'll get it.

    Not true. I'm on Sierra and I can use openssh just fine (you basically just use the El Capitan version, or whatever the last version is), and even people using Mojave are able to use it.

    :no:
    there is absolutely nothing good about it, it's like a joke, many features are missing, there are artificial limitations for I/O and track count, no support for AVID hardware nor any 3rd party controller either, I genuinely don't see a single reason to bother with it (and yes, I tried it recently again, I honestly couldn't even laugh on how useless it was),

    even if you say "keep a hand on it and keep practicing" sadly there's barely anything you can practice with, and I personally would consider that a major waste of time,
    if you're comfortable with Logic, use Logic;
    if you're bored and want to try a fast, rock-solid reliable, high-performance industry standard DAW, learn Reaper;
    if you're afraid of not being able to co-op with studios running ProTools, perhaps give a try to AATranslator (not cheap, but definitely cheaper than just a few months of regular ProTools
