BitCoin which was thought to be a good alternative system that can't be easily manipulated has run into some snags, first from the recent crash they had and then there were other issue where they got into legal trouble. Also one admin states that: "Bitcoin is not an option. We can pay next to nothing with it and there seems to be no ‘certain’ way to convert it to something we can use".

They won't shut down but this will severely impact their ability to process payments. Unfortunately right now there are few alternatives for payments.
