    Hey,
yes, its another omnisphere problem thread, but its the first one for me since im new to the audio community.
I tried to first-install Omnisphere 2 for 5 days but always had errors coming through my way. I tried various downloads, various methods and various troubleshootings, but none of them helped.

First of all, Im using Windows 10 and my Computer is actually pretty good, since Im using it for my dayjob.
As you may have figured out, Omnisphere reacts with error messages when started, eventhough Im starting it as an adminstrator.

    Error messages:
"The STEAM folder does not have write permission. Try running as adminstrator."
after clicking OK , the second error appears
    "STEAM folder is not writable."
then it opens the Application and another error appears:
    "Error loading waveform"
    screenshots: https://prnt.sc/rdeop2 https://prnt.sc/rdephr

I tried to ready every Thread in this Forum and have struggled for many days before asking the professionals, but now im really exhausted and I dont really know what I could try next..
btw. Im using the spectrasonics omnisphere complete from audioz by Pirate and already read every comment underneath that post.

If theres any information missing, dont hesitate to ask me

I have gone about similar problems (forget what program was culpritious) by copying the locked folder onto a separate drive, removing the original by means of "Unlocker" (the freeware stubborn-file-remover) and copying the copied original back to its own location. Method worked for me but me no expert so perform at own risk. Backup before anything else.

This is another unnecessary Omnisphere thread. I get tired of telling newbies that ALL THE OMNISPHERE problems for which there is a solution have been solved in this Forum. This particular problem has nothing to do with Omnisphere. It is the user that doesnt know how to go about obtaining full permissions for an specific folder. Indeed, I have written the same instructions more that 5 or 6 times. Both for STEAM in C: drive and for STEAM on external hard drives. The OP needs to look in past threads or do a Google search for permissions. The OP needs to make EVERYONE the OWNER and give full permissions to EVERYONE.

As I said, I searched through the forum but couldnt find a solution that helped for me.
Im sorry for being new here, but I engaged myself and honestly looked through the forum.
If you dont want to help me, then dont do it, Im not mad at that. But let the other people help me who would like to, no reason to delete it, since I couldnt figure out how to fix the problem even with google or various forums.

I just need help and didnt know where to go..

I feel you. Dont take it personal. I just helped you. I told you what you need. Search Google for how to give permissions. Make sure to give them to everyone. Not to any other user in particular. IF you continue to have problems just get TeamViewer, and in 1 minute I will fix it for you.

    (I already have Teamviewer installed)
    Sorry for annoying you

When you go to properties of your STEAM folder there should be at the bottom a box with read only. You can try to turn this off or on and check again. Depends on how it's set at first.

That is not going to work. In fact, every installation I have done including mine has that box checked. I explained that 3 days ago.

You need to make EVERYONE the owner and give everyone full permissions. I also told you that I can fix it for you because you don't know how to go about it. BTW, this is my last reply. There is a saying you can lead a horse to the water but can't make it drink. This is the reason why this threads are a nuisance. It is nothing wrong with Omnisphere. It is user's error or lack of knowledge.

Here is how you obtain full permissions to a file or folder:

    1. Open File Explorer.
    2. Browse and find the file or folder you want to have full access.
    3. Right-click it, and select Properties.
    4. Click the Security tab to access the NTFS permissions.
    5. Click the Advanced button.

    6. On the "Advanced Security Settings" page, you need to click the Change link, in the Owner's field.

    7. Click the Advanced button.
    8. On the "Select User or Group" page, click the Find Now button.
    9. From the search result, select EVERYONE, and click OK.

    10. On the "Select User or Group" page, click OK.
    11. Click Apply.
    12. Click OK.

    13. Click OK again.
    14. Click OK one more time to complete this task.
It's important to note that if you're taking ownership of a folder, you can check the Replace ownership on subcontainers and object option in the Advanced Security Settings page to take control of the subfolders inside of the folder.

Now you'll need to grant full access control to your account, to do this use the following steps:

    1. Right-click the file or folder and select Properties.
    2. Click the Security tab to access the NTFS permissions.
    3. Click the Advanced button.
    4. Under the Permissions tab, click Add.

    5. Click Select a principal to add your user account.
    6. On the "Select User or Group" page, click the Find Now button.
    7. From the search result, select your user account, and click OK.
    8. On the "Select User or Group" page, click OK.

    9. On "Permission Entry", check the Full control option.
    10. Click OK.

    11. Click OK.
    12. Click Apply.
    13. Click OK.
    14. Click OK to close the file or folder properties to complete the task.
It's important to note that if you're taking ownership of a folder, you can check the Replace all existing inheritable permissions on all descendants with inheritable permissions for this object option in the Advanced Security Settings page to replace the subfolders permissions with the settings from the parent folder.

If you want to change the attributes of a drive follow these steps:
    1. Press Win + R together and type cmd in the box to hit Enter. Run the command prompt as the Admin.
    2. Type diskpart and press Enter.
    3. Type list disk and press Enter again.
    4. Now, type select disk X and press Enter. (Here replace X with your drive letter)
    5. Type attributes disk clear read-only and then press Enter.
    6. Close the Command Prompt. You will see the write permission has been changed from the external hard disk
In the OP's case, the first thing I did was:
    1. Removed all prior installations by the OP. For this I used Ultrasearch using the term Omnisphere and Spectrasonics. https://www.jam-software.com/ultrasearch
    2. Removed all traces of Omnisphere from the registry. For this, I used Regscanner as Administrator https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/regscanner.html with terms Omnisphere and Spectrasonics as Exact Match. Searching for Values, Data, Keys, and Unicode strings in binary values.
    RegScanner.png

Next I created a folder named Spectrasonics in his D: drive where he wanted to place the STEAM folder. I made EVERYONE the OWNER, gave EVERYONE full permissions, and only then proceeded to install.

Because if I can do it for everyone else with same issue and you can't that means that you are doing it wrong. I am not a freaking magician. Nobody is. There is a proper way to do things. I went as far as offering my help through TeamViewer. If you want to continue wasting people's time and yours with this go ahead. Again, you can lead a horse to the water but cant make it drink.

Well, I am pretty sure that I have done something with it in the past that has helped me with the authorization and fixed a very simular issue. Unfortunately I don't remember anymore what it was, but I thought maybe it could help in this case :)

    Yeah, exactly.

By the way you mentioned in a previous post that the read only box was on all the time. It also could be like the other way. That this box was checked off by me in some way and that I turned it on and maybe therefore something was working. Anyway, it could be good though to always check this box to be sure for these kind of cases :)
