i saw something on kvr a minute ago (just the title) and it made me think about how desperate all the guys in audio are to find women who also love audio.
there are mixed views from "women in general just dont care about audio" to "women are oppressed".

i just think audio guys need to make an attempt to leave the DAW and go outside. there are other women out there.

Actually..... ask anyone in an audio engineering course in university right now. Usually more than half the class is girls. My course had alot of girls and yeah, some weren't interested. That's a fact. Look though, some of you are pretentious bastards, staring down women like fresh meat, expecting them to wow you with their mixes. Like the boss of a news company and they're the pretty reporter. That attitude isn't good for anyone. Even the boys. Don't go, "No! No! You're doing it wrong. I'll do it!" Boy or girl, I let them fail. They might wow me on their next revision. This is a Male dominated career... right now, mainly because we gave them the impression they need to fight their way into the studio in the first place. Give it five years and you'll see. Female engineers will crop up seemingly out of nowhere. They'll start winning Grammy's and awards. Some already have actually. And I know girls that are super keen on learning. They'll study every move I make with an EQ and they'll watch which plugins I reach for to solve problems. Want more girls interested in audio? Find them and make them pros. Is your wife/gf tired of her job? Gift her a mixing room. Don't have a wife/gf? Find one and wow her with your wizardry and wait till she says, "Wow... I wish I could do that."



Some of this is a joke but really, trends are moving towards the girls. They'll make their own spaces and find their way into bigger studios to do more demanding records while they climb up the ranks. Soon, the head engineer at that new world class studio may very well be a woman. She may very well be the one who owns the space at that too.

 

YUP!!! This post pretty much sums up the situation! And that "five years" prediction of yours is about right. Me, I'd put it between 5-10 years cause them good old boys are not going to let it happen as fast as it could. So, some more roadblocks will be implemented/introduced along the way.

 

In the audio sector it is like in any other male dominated industry.
Give the woman a little self-confidence and a chance and she will be able to stand up to her male competitors.

She will show you that women are not weak and capricious birthing machines that you have to handle with kid gloves.

All it takes is trust in her abilities.
Show her that there are other professions than those within the narrow framework of gender prejudice.

Yes we are all human. But there is a difference between equal rights and equality.
Men and women are not equal. This has nothing to do with political ideology. It's simple biology! The body chemistry is completely different.
To call something equal that is not equal is a mistake. It is important to recognize and respect these differences.

There are lots of women in audio. Yet the percentage of women is less than 10%.
It would be nice to see more women in this field, but it is not so easy, because before a woman can decide for this profession/hobby, she first has to consider it as a possible perspective...
