I thinking of getting Ryzen 3700x and an MSI X570 motherboard.

But.....does it run with Win7? Any experience out there?

Not that easy (Like the one in the Video said "very troubling" indeed )
(there is no official support for Win7 at all )
If your mobo supports all drivers than this can work but this will not like every 08/15 installation

    Something to consider:
    • If you think about safety this is a bad idea (next spectre or similar exploits will come)So think about the Options you've got Win 10, Linux, (macOS hackintosh will be even more troubling than the win 7 )
    • And you can't use the full power of the CPU modern OS are optimize for the CPU
    • More and more Software will not support Win 7
But writing here from a Win 7 PC I know what and why :winker:

Well, I can think of reasons why it might not. Murphy's Law if nothing else. :D

    I don't have a PS2 mouse. But.....£10. Cheaper than W10.

Hmmm. Bit arsey. I'll have to watch vid properly (only watched first 10 mins or so) before deciding.

Thanks for the heads up though. ;)

I was thinking might as well go full legit if going for W10. But God, I loathe W10 let alone do I want to pay £100 for it.

If you live in Germany this is a fully legit W 10 (Law here says selling OEM Key without a Hardware is still full legal.)

    Totally understand that :winker:
Try Linux (If enough people go this way Programmers have to follow and many good Apps are already available : to name some developers Cockos - Reaper,Bitwig U-he )
It's not perfect but still not Win 10

Well, I bought a W10 on mem stick from a deal "recommended" by Amazon.......£95. Along with 3700x and X570.

I was a bit suspicious as it said "Origin Germany" on the box.

Turns out it won't activate, "Licence already in use". Amazon will refund when they pick it up.

Geez - £95 from Amazon and still a dud. FFS!!!

Still, 3700X seems very nice. But yeah, Win10......hate it. Windows XP in 2020 - wow, so cool. No Win Aero, stupid APP crap, stupid settings, spyware, sluggish compared to W7, not so nice handling of text sizes etc. Pfft!

LTSC. And it can be, if really needed (1809 x64 iso, ms direct link), "stripped-down" even more....

Hwid.kms or ms.toolkit. No cortana, no edge, no consumer experience, no store, no ("optional") defender security centrer, no forced feature updates, no ("optional") updates whatsoever, no ("optional")...... No, but yes. Or no, and yes to w7 ryzen experience.

I just went ahead and installed Windows 7. It takes a little time. Make sure your BIOS supports UEFI with CSM (or I guess legacy mode would work too)! Using NTLite is the best way and you can seriously "silence" Windows kernel with it, you can even integrate language packs to W7 versions that do not allow it and a lot of stuff.

    Better than stripped down Win10

    @Gyro Gearloose
I highly doubt you 'll be able to install W7 on a 2020 or late 2019 laptop. Most bios i 've seen from modern laptops don't provide legacy support in any way. You may find a workstation laptop that gives such an option but i still doubt this as well. (If someone is aware of such a laptop let me know please).
You may be able to "hack yourself into it", by taking a hdd or ssd with already installed (and updated) W7 Ultimate and putting in the laptop as a c: drive and see what if it boots, although i find the possibility scarce :)
    Cheers

Hey mate. How you 've been:) It's been a while.
Some months ago the price difference between the 3700X and the 3800X was about 50-70 euros. Right now the 3800X is only about 30 euros more expensive than the 3700X. So i'd get the faster one atm.
About the X570 mobo. There are only two solid MSI x570 boards and they both fall kinda short when compared to other similarly priced boards, which i will explain. You may (and anyone else reading this) also think of this as my unofficial X570 mobo buy guide:)
So for the MSI, the 2 solid boards are the X570 Creation (~450-480 euros depending where you buy) and the Unify (~340 euros). The other MSI boards in the X570 series just fail to impress or lack important features or just too expensive, while on the contrary the MSI B450 Tomahawk Max is by far the best and most stable board in the B450 range, not to mention it's just 100 euros.
Thing is, i don't think the Creation is within your budget consideration and the Unify, although it has a solid VRM it has just 4 Sata slots and a kinda poor rear i/o. Either way, any musician wanting to buy the Creation would look at the ASRock X570 Creator (~500 euros), and it is a no brainer that the ASRock board wins since it has dual Thunderbolt 3 built-in, making it the better choice for future expandability and provides an additional choice for high end audio interfaces. Likewise, looking at the Unify, you have the X570 Aorus Master from Gigabyte at around the same price (it also has a TB3 header allowing you to install the Gigabyte Titan Ridge Thunderbolt 3 card), which is a far better board in terms of features and has one of the best VRM in the entire series. The Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero is also a really solid board at around 400 euros but the Aorus Master seems to be a better allround board except that the Hero has 8 Sata ports and the Master has 6.
Going down the price range a bit further we have the Asus ROG Strix X570-E and the ASRock X570 TaiChi which both are solid boards (with 8 SATA ports too) at ~300 euros and still win over the Unify in terms of features. At ~275 euros the Asus Rog Strix X570-F Gaming should get my honorable mention as it is a very good board too and worth considering.
On the cheaper side of the X570 only two boards are really ok, the Asus TUF Gaming X570-Plus WiFi and Gigabyte's X570 Aorus Elite, both at about 200 euros. The Elite has a WiFi version too at about 15-20 euros more, while the Asus has a non WifI TUF for about 180. Although both these boards' VRMs are kind of weak compared to ~300+ euro boards they will allow you to upgrade up to the 16core 3950X (just don't expect to OC efficiently with these boards).
And this is where it ends with the X570. The cheaper x570 boards are not even worth considering, for anyone wanting a cheaper board with a Ryzen 3000 series cpu, you should just skip the X570 series entirely and go for the MSI B450 Tomahawk Max.
    Cheers
