Hello guys, I just bought a custom 7 string guitar earlier this month ...
Before I bought it, I used it to record songs on my solo project ... That guitar previously belonged to my friend ... He didn't use it anymore because he would focus on office work ...

The problems is.....

As you can see from the picture, there is Tone knob button (edit : with potentio) removed and left the hole on my guitar...
My question is...

After you listen to this guitar sound sample and after post-production with the Tone knob not there, do I need to put the Tone knob back again?
Or it just okay with this setup?
I dont know before how this guitar sound when Tone knob are installed ... That is why I ask for more advice with many experienced user here...

The first owner of this guitar had previously removed the Tone knob on purpose because he was following his idol trend ... The reason was that the tone was more open ... Is that the correct theory?

You would usually keep the tone knob open, so as long as it is totally open, that's OK. If it is not, probably you can open it using some screwdriver or something.

But it is very weird that your friend removed it!

 

This explains why the word is going badly...7 billions of people and 90% stupid...who's his idol, Mr. Bean?

I don't know whether this tone knob is in an open position or not, what I know is that the tone knob and it's potentiometer have been removed from this guitar ...
Do I have to disassemble it and put the potentiometer and knob back on again? Very unlucky I do not understand about solder and wiring ... Maybe I should take it to someone who is an expert in this ... Or just leave it as it is?
Yes, weird... He removes that tone knob to free the tone out without tone control ... I dont know is that working or not with that way ...

Maybe you are right .... He doing that just to follow his idol named Leda Cygnus from Japan ...
But the difference is Leda using Guitar with only one Volume knob control without removing anything ... But my friend just follow that and remove this guitar Tone knob and potentiometer and leave only the Volume knob ...

So, do I must to installed back that Tone knob and the potentiometer?

He probably removed because regular tone pots still influences the sound a bit even though it is in fully open position. There are no-load tone pots though, that "clicks" in place when you open them fully and disconnects from the circuit like it wasn't there. I have one on my Charvel and I guess it's okey but I don't think I would have noticed any difference from a regular pot.

 

If it's not there it's not in open or closed position because it doesn't exist You have nothing to worry about! Your friend probably removed it because even if you have a regular tone pot fully open, it still makes the guitar sound a tiny bit darker. So if you remove it completely the guitar sounds a bit brighter, and if you play mostly metal there is no real use for a tone pot. If you want to install a tone pot but still want it to sound as bright you can buy a no-load tone pot. When a no-load tone pot is fully open it "clicks" into place and the signal from the pickups gets sent straight through without it changing sound. I have one on my guitar but it is pretty much no difference from a regular tone pot... just more expensive.

My guess is the wires have been reconnected after the pot as been removed to bypass any tone adjustment and therefore fully "open".

Yeah it's probably disconnected and fine.

I would get a spare (dummy) pot and install it. It'll do nothing but looks nicer than a hole

With today's technology the tone knob is a pretty useless thing IMO. The sounds will be more "open" without it because with a tone knob there is always one more current leak path to earth even though its significance isn't that huge. I have a guitar with a push pull tone and it's noticeable easily with it.

Put the volume where the tone was and build a killswitch where the vol is now (or just put a killswitch where the hole is whatever you prefer)
