Yeah, that's what I mean. If the arrangement is good according to the genre, the DR is as it is. Nothing to increase artificially.

 

thx! so we r back at tonal balance then. i ll defo check the 100 - 200hz issue. i do like my subs loud though since most of my music is supposed to be sub driven music

 

but i was actually talking about "short term" dynamic range since not seeing any peaks/spikes on my stereo bus meter at any time of the mix. i wasnt talking about the whole dynamic range picture of the entire track which would indeed be subject to arrangement. i m still hoping i can manage to imporve "short term" dynamic range using less compression on individual tracks and also gain staging/leveling differently. or did u possibly rather mean instrumentation instead of arrangement? instrumentation would indeed also affect the "short term" dynamic range

 

Gain staging will not help you! I mean, how? It's a static pre-fader intervention.
Your problem is a matter of arrangement! Maybe even sub. IDK I only heard it on my tablet. where do you think the dynamics should coming from if your instruments don't play dynamically? Here some velocity edits and there some velocity edits. Then macrodynamic per volume automation... and you have a higher DR. As a side effect your demos don't sound so lifeless and boring anymore.

 

Ah, a misunderstanding, I meant the 40 - 100Hz level should be higher, as far as I've listened to the songs.

Yeah, that's because they're too squashed (compressed/limited).
