Ok, there is a difference between complicated and complex.
In general, being complex art is better than simple - you can consume the same media many times, finding some new aspects in the same piece of work.
About emotions - music has nothing to do with them - it is psychological response, which can be conditioned, depending on the culture - for example gamelan music leaves most non-native people completely baffled at what should they feel, many describe it as "mystical/mysterious".
Bach isn't better or more famous than insert "X or Y", because he makes you feel good or bad etc. He is considered a giant, because of technical mastery over compositional techniques in a style that was already almost forgotten in his own time.

    About real music:
Most modern types of music aren't "real" music, because there is usually going on something extramusical -

Pop music - manufactured product, targeted at the dumbest parts of the population, the main point of many songs is the video clip where they have product placement of various products like drinks, clothes etc. Extremely formulaic.
Dance music - mostly about dancing, many rigid formulas just to make your tracks picked by the djs. Extremely formulaic.
Film/video game music - basically shouldn't be too interesting or you distract the audience, and you have to follow the temp tracks, and write mostly using some kind of cliches (Inception brass rip, Lydian scale in comedy or feel good moments etc etc). Extremely formulaic.
Any regional folk/ethnic style; or occasional music (for ceremonies) - creativity is not a high priority, instrumentation is conservative. Extremely formulaic.

I don't say that it's not possible to write genius level music in a limited style, actually, that's what many of the great composers in the canon have done, but people today are just very lazy and uncreative.
About art music, unconstrained by any limitations; I hope you have another source of income, hehe, cause almost noone gives a fuck about originality and experimental/high level art. (Let's say you are concert music lover that regularly goes to virtuoso piano performances - most likely you will always attend established programs, instead of pieces by modern composers.)

I said where it goes and why. Worship of machines, robots, virtual machines and virtual 'worlds', alienated internet human 'connectedness' should rather be understood as the cause of "bleak place of despair". And it mirrors in music (if one should call it music at all).

To some extent I do agree with you, there is so much really bad and unoriginal music getting shitloads of attention and throughout the history of music so much music being lightyears ahead of mainstream shit just doesn't get heard at all, however, thankfully there still is good mainstream music being made here and there and the amount of shit is not gonna stop, it is gonna increase even more now with "A.I" softwares stealing patterns and combining them adding instruments and whatnot for regular monkeys to use in their photoalbum animations.
And with some extremely deep and advanced engines being made from time to time the possibilities becomes increasingly bigger, granular synths for example, yet there isnt even someone that has properly taken the concept of granular synths to make a really good granular synth like Xfer did with Serum for wavetable synths. What I'm trying to say is, the reason there is so much shit out there is because it is really fucking hard to make good music lol. Considering how deep music CAN BE today wich very few utilize tho.

Is it over tho? No LOL... Im still here.... :D srsly, good music is being made no matter what year it is, just have to find it.

When I say "emotions" that means "psychological response",emotions are a psychological response.
And music is all about emotions (all kind of emotions, happy, sad, hurry, love, getting older LoL,etc,etc...) that you transcribe through your music.

The culture has nothing to do with that,we are all humans and we all feel the same "emotions" or "psychological responses" ,again.

Good music is subjective. And It's not because a song's very complex that it's necessarily good,IMO.
Some classical tracks (or songs,I don't know the exact term in English US) are complex and I don't find them especially good. But some are complex and I find them awesome,if you understand my point.

I disagree on that too. What is something extra musical?
Western academic culture has its own music concepts.Asian or Indian or African music have their own and different concepts. And I guess they also make some good music.
What makes a "sound" used in music?it's about frequencies.Synthesizers reproduce frequencies. They have LFOs,make some wobble basses for example, but it's the same kind of thing as a tremolo or vibrato on acoustic intruments.Tremolo or vibrato has been invented by humans,it's not a natural sound you hear in the nature. They have ADSR envelopes that reproduce transient in an acoustic plucked instrument.

What you are writing here is very subjective...I will repeat that complexity doesn't necessarily mean "good" music.

    I agree on this,yeehh!:)

The only thing I got from Blue is that he is a total 0 in the basics of musicology and psychology, and philosophy of music...
    But who cares?

Here is what you wrote previously:

"sound design includes all elements of a sound, including pitch, rhythm etc"

That's called "COMPOSITION", not "SOUND DESIGN".

Sure I'm a cretin who doesn't know anything and you are God.You are funny man.Be less snob, please.

Jean Michel Jarre or Vangelis music are considered good music even though it's not ultra complex composers as Bach or Tchaikovsky as an example.Their are genius in musical ideas, sounds, arrangement, the "emotions" they give you through their music.

Good Music is not just about writing thousands notes per bar.In any case,it's my point of view.

Is there any official definition of "good music"?

I have accepted it 40 years ago.
But the World music treasure was building up from 17th century until near the end of the 20th century. Enough for several lifetimes. If you include little known great Greek music from 1950-2007 (the year of the last Theodorakis album) it contributes with about 4.000 top quality pieces more. And there's music from other nations like South American, Balkans, African & Asian (Indian especially) folk and ethnic. Modern 'music' is just a silent coup made by audio processing & reproducing equipment, musicians being the 'collateral damage'.

    Maybe.. just maybe...

instead of making yet another one of these "DAE modern music bad lol" threads...

Maybe the next person could just grab a frying pan in one hand, and a skillet in the other, and use your skull to beatbox. And you'll know how it feels to read this crap lol

I had a really good post worked out in my mind for this thread; it was really good- logical, persuasive, made a lot of good points about music and how we all relate to it; I'm fairly sure a decent number of people would have agreed with it... then I thought about the hassle of actually typing it and instead I decided to do something more productive, like looking at porn. And I'm glad.

First, I mentioned the lack of collaboration in my previous comment, and how it is something that seems to have Gone The Way of The Buffalo, but it isn't as if it doesn't exist. I live in the PNW and you see more of that up here than in a lot of places I have been (in the U.S.; call it a narrow perspective, but the U.S., Canada, and Mexico have been the limit of my travels...so far.)
And? Stop it. Just stop. "Worship of machines," (maybe Maschines,") "Robots," (da'fuq???) "Virtual machines" (you mean computers, right?--because "virtual machines" makes it sound like some foe in an Orson Wells and Phillip K. Dick collaborative novel,) and, maybe the most confusing "virtual worlds" (...Skyrim??? ...Fallout??? ...do people still play WOW??? I don't really get it. Do you mean The Virtual World of audio forums?)
Seriously, coming from me, who struggles not to go to my default of seeing the world in Black & White, you need to find a nice gray area and chill. All I hear coming from over there is fear, fear of change, and taking the easy way out by blaming whatever is new on the block. (Again, I noted a long time ago that seeing the world in Black & White stems from either fear or laziness; mine was the latter, as I didn't want to take time to understands the grays.)
Honestly, you don't think there wasn't six-tons of soulless, mechanical garbage from day one? Go dig and find every band/artist that tried to emulate the electronic aspects of Bowie's Berlin albums...that era had a staggering amount of crappy electronic music...and the eighties? Yeah; 'nuff said there. Or, another route. Rock music made nowadays within DAWs. Talentless? Soulless? Again, dive into the murky depths of an archaic cassette/vinyl store that has row upon row of albums, millions of crap bands that made forgettable music...and some of them even had record deals, but you never heard of them. This era may have given an strong advantage to third-rate musicians with nothing to say, but it's not like this is some occurrence that can be linked solely to these Devil-bots that lurk in darkened corners of our homes, swaying us towards making vapid music using their nefarious 1s & 0s. No, you just now have the ability to soak in everyone musicians attempts at greatness, no matter how terrible they are.
...guh, well, I got sucked into this thread.
    (...seriously though, consider the grays.)
