Ordinary Elephant is a married couple who write poignant lyrics and can harmonize like twins born of the womb, their songs always sympathetically resonating with some emotion dwelling and welling, lurking somewhere deep inside of me. He's playing an octave mandoline which is a fine, lower registered doubled four string instrument. This song is about a wounded soldier returning home to his civilian old life after a heavy injury sustained in Vietnam. I bought their latest album based on this song.

 

This old codger and sort of Lloyd Bridges look-alike is a blind Muezzin who really kills this tune. This is some random video that the Yutube algorithm decided to spit out at me. I watched it three times and will again three times more.

The song is in Turkish and the Google translation really sucks. I have absolutely no idea what the song is about.

I did an electronic cover of this with an opera soprano in the 90s which loosely translates from russian to, 'oh beauty, never sing to me again, for when you do, she rises up before me'

..was particularly poetic at that moment in life..
