I don't know these 2 monitors, but take in account the Yamaha have a rear bass port, that is not good when they are close to a wall. They have 8" woofers,so probably more low end than the Focal but less mediums.I think I would go with the Focal personnally.

    maybe Kali Audio IN-8,
    it's active 3-way with coaxial mid+tweeter,
only flaw is probably high self noise...

i own the focal alpha 80's and presonus sceptre s6's along with a presonus temblor t10 sub. the focals are definitely awesome. nice mid range. the sceptres really show detail though. it's really up to how your room is treated + how you position your monitors + how good your hearing is. you can have the most expensive monitors but not know how to mix/master. i know some people that use regular old stereo speakers and mix their tracks real good. so its really up to you. go to guitar center and test them out yourself. then go online and find a good deal. guitar center also price matches so try that as well if you want.

    i must ask
what kind of user are you i.e what kind of gear do you already have/use?
    Beginner Advanced?

    if you are a beginner
a set of jbl 308 (smal room 305)+ a Primacoustic London 8 kit

and the yamahs are good too but they are 500 bucks like my suggestion.

so what do you do ;)
