So I'm considering switching my main DAW from Ableton 10 to Bitwig 3.1. Kicked the tires on Bitwig and I'm pretty satisfied its got everything I need. Anyone have any red or yellow flags to raise for me?

 

The only thing I dislike about Bitwig is how it handles multi out vsties. It does it but it's a pain.
Other than that I've made the switch a few months back and except for old projects I haven't reopened Live since.

How does Bitwig compare to Studio One 4? I haven't been paying much attention to the newer DAWs, though I decided to switch from Ableton to Studio One about two years ago. I feel more at home using Studio One, but my gut tells me I've yet to reach the end of my DAW journey.

 

both Groove/Audio quantization are missing, no other biggie, I also miss free MIDI note stretching

 

if u do any multitrack related operation like recording/warping/comping/takes etc. forget it

 

IMHO, the biggest con for Bitwig is that you can't UNDO 3rd party plugins (undo only works for the Bitwig devices and all the arrangement-mixer edits). Also, some of the included fx devices are not as good as Ableton but that is not a problem since you can replace them with some good Vst's. Everything else is better than Ableton and more important is that it comes with better price and very frequent updates.

Thanks everyone. The groove pool does suck to lose. Same for Midi stretching. I don't do much recording comping - just vocals and they're simple. Bitwig worse than Ableton in that regard? Maybe I'll give Studio One a swing too.

the topmost requested features are piano rolls related and groove/audio quantization so worth to check new versions maybe they are comes soon who knows

 

no midi "timestretch" (actually there is but only 50% and 200% so its totally useless)
