Anyone know an AU plugin host (non Daw) to use to authorize plugins online?

Don't know if you found a solution but have you tried AudioFinder? It's an audio player that can load AU

Nope, it doesn't scan your folders. You have to point it specifically to the plugin on your drive you wanna use in that 'session'. For me it's the most convenient method bc you just need one program for different plugin types

Sorry for not reading your initial post a little more closely! Like you, I tried AU Lab first and assumed it would work with everything, as that's what Apple uses to test AU plugs. They haven't really updated it since 2010 or 2011. I gave up on it a long time ago. And I have the most recent version of Plugin Player -- probably more recent than anyone else's, as the guy at Defective Records sent me a special beta that includes stuff he couldn't put in the App Store version. The beta fixed a few things, but it's still pretty clunky. When it first came out a few years ago, it worked much better, which kind of augments his statement regarding Apple messing up his code with ongoing updates. As you're a legit owner of Plugin Player, it may behoove you to contact him directly via the Defective Records site, explain your problem and have him send you the beta himself. In exchange, he'll probably want crash and bug info, but nothing serious or especially private.

Hosting AU will work with about 70-80 percent of all your plugs and VIs, plus, it even records a couple tracks of MIDI and audio, like a mini-DAW. It has an issue with Waves and Arturia stuff, some of which will actually make the app crash.

DSP-Quattro 5 is definitely your best bet, as it seems to work with about 95 percent of all plugs and VIs (and it's also the best audio editor currently available for the Mac!).

I do have a version of audiofinder, but iirc, it could load AU fx, but not instruments.... but will look at as well.

I have solved my problem (for now), but thank you for the suggestion, as i do remember that, and should revisit it...

Good point, and again thanks for your insight and spending your time on thinking on this for me... I have it solved now with "Hosting AU" for the Roland Cloud issue, but as you said, that might not accommodate all my other stuff (as I am trying to do the right thing and go legit with the stuff I actually use and buy it).... but it sucks when doing so.... as there is some overlap as you can imagine....

I don't want to bother the owner/dev of Plugin Player and harass him as I imagine he is over it, and isn't gonna fix that overnight, nor would i expect him to.. he made a product 8 years ago or so that did what it said it did and kept up until the rug was pulled out from under him in the Apple way...

    alas...

Ultimately, it didn't seem to solve the problem, which is a shame, as it's a nifty little app with potential. My main complaint with it, aside from its bugginess, was that you actually had to scroll through all your plugs in a Finder-type window to load one, as opposed to a pull-down.

I would do that, but i wanted to avoid having to drag all my other plugs in and out of respective folders so they didn't have to be scanned.... for running the Roland cloud, you have to authorize them once every few weeks or so, and it would be a tedious nightmare... otherwise, yeah, I would have done that first.. thanks though!

rename plugins folder, copy roland cloud to any folder, setup daw to scan folder with roland cloud, run plugin, activate, delete folder with roland cloud, rename plugins folder to opriginal name, set up daw to original plugins daw.

yeah, i already found my solution as I delineated earlier in the thread... au plugin player and most OS X daws will only scan the 'proper' library/audio/plugins folder (outside of being able to designate another folder in ableton for VST's on OSX), ... so you can't just tell your daw generally to scan any folder in that regard... which is why I was asking the question in the first place, as I have been at this since day one of plugins (DiNR anyone back in 92?).. and it is more bloated then I care to admit, and with the Roland Cloud, you only have to authorize one and the rest work fine.. so i just wanted a slim lined easy way to simply load one virtual instrument without it scanning my whole folder and also being able to talk to the internet...."Hosting AU" accomplishes that if you do it a certain way.

    but appreciate the help.
