Anyone know an AU plugin host (non Daw) to use to authorize plugins online?

For some reason Audio Plugin Player and AU Lab are not working on one of my systems which only has k'd daws and a fair amount of k'd plugs.

I have the Roland Cloud and would like to authorize it, and have installed everything, but I need to be online in order to do so.... So obviously I can't go through Ableton or whatnot (as little snitched out etc), and I don't wanna move ALL the rest of my plugs and whatnot out of component/vst/vst3 folders etc and try and use the free Garage Band or whatever...

I used to use Audio Plugin Player, and AU Lab "should" work, but the first says it is not supported by this machine, and the other says the same with a (prohibited cross) through it.

I am updating to a version of Xcode suitable for my system to see if that is the case, but was wondering if anyone else had any suggestions? Thanks! (and I hate to bother YOU again @taskmaster .... :) )

I'm basically looking for something like Audio Plug in Player, or AU Lab, (which for some reason when I try and open on Sierra says it is not supported by this machine...((it's a 5,1 cheese grater running 10.12.6 ....) and Audio Plug in player has a slash for it and says it can't be opened on this mac... I am going to try and update that from 3.8 to 3.81 to see if that changes anything...

I'm wondering if I need to download the x-code command line tools for this machine, as i don't think it has Xcode installed nor do i want to download the whole shebang, as Audio Plugin Player doesn't work (has slash through it), and I don't know why it wouldn't on Sierra... or this machine...

thanks sue freeman, but the nanohost is windows only, and reaper has me pulling EVERYTHING out of my different plug in folders outside of those plugins (as I don't want to wait the day (lol) for Reaper to scan my plug ins and have some call home perhaps...)

thanks mate, yeah, I have that, for some reason when I try and boot it, it will open some of my legit plugs as a test, but the Roland cloud ones won't open, I wonder if it is just because it is trying to phone home for initial authorization and that host doesn't allow it... checking to see if I have that blocked right now.... and nope, i don't.... hmmm...

it wierd, as AU Lab works on the laptop I am typing on right now running the SAME OSX etc .... but Audio Plug in Player won't.... so i think it must have to do with that app wanting to ping Roland (which i ACTUALLY WANT IT TO DO lol! ) I have no idea why AU Lab says it's "not supported on this type of Mac", it's a 5,1 machine, it's worked fine with everything else....

    appreciate your help though!

Thank you for your help guys, not sure if it was updating my "command line tools" or a newer version of what @twoheart suggested in audio plugin player.

Have a great one, and again, appreciate you all taking the time. Great community.

EDIT: Spoke TOO SOON. It crashed when trying to reach Roland Cloud... so must be some problem there... will keep digging.... sorry...

    thanks again guys

@sisyphus Blue Cat's PatchWork should do the trick. Use it as standalone and load your AU. I use it all the time that way to register my plugins.

Thanks again to all of you, DID actually get it working with "Hosting AU", but for future reference for people that need to authorize "subscription" services with some dubious stuff on your machine that you do NOT want to broadcast, here is what I have found and works so far"

    1. boot up machine, internet OFF.

    2. when it is all booted up, open "Hosting AU" app.

    3. turn off little snitch (with nothing else you want open that could be exposed etc)...

    4. then login to whatever service... make sure it is all good...

    5. instantiate plugin or whatnot in "Hosting AU" app, it will check your credentials and all good...

    6. quit that, turn little snitch back on, turn off or on internet depending on how you roll (my work machine rarely kisses the internet except for this kinda thing...)

    and all good.

The apple Audio Plugin Player DOES audit all your au's (like Logic does etc...) so don't use that...

but thanks again for all your time and help, and I hope this post helps people in the future with this kinda thing..

You can try AU Lab (free), which is a bit wonky with some plugs:

    http://macappstore.org/au-lab/

... or the one I use the most, Hosting AU (also free):

    http://ju-x.com/hostingau.html

... or DSP-Quattro (which you'll have to obtain from the sister site), which is technically an audio editor, but is also set up to play VIs and audition plugs:

    https://www.dsp-quattro.com/dspquattro/Site/DSP-Quattro.html

I have a legit copy of AU Plugin Player (it's only five bucks), but when it stopped working with a lot of plugs and VIs, I contacted the main guy at Defective Records, and it sounds like the rigmarole he has to go through in order to get it in the Apple Store really messed up his code.

Thanks Iggy! Yeah, AU Lab had some issues for me indeed, you are right, that is wonky as hell... I know some guys use that to debug their work in releases and whatnot, but I couldn't... it insisted on scanning my whole AU folder etc and was inconsistent.

Hosting AU was the ticket, again you are right on that... it worked, and in the order of operations i listed in a previous comment... which is going to be more of a problem going ahead with subscription services, and some of us try before buy, but DO buy, and get jammed up when the two are mixed as it isn't chocolate and peanut butter...

and yes, again you are right re: AU Plugin Player... I too purchased that awhile back for this same reason (like 5 years ago...), but it no longer works well for me, as any plug that wants to phone home or whatever brings an "error" message, ironically it works fine with most K's, and legit stuff that is just serial based, but I couldn't get it to work on some of my legit purchased stuff, even while online etc... and that sucks the dev had to deal with that.... and I don't blame him for not releasing an update in years if apple is yanking him around at all...

I did NOT know about dsp-quattro, but I am gonna check it out, and thanks for the heads up on that. Things like audacity and whatnot will play AU fx, but not instruments, and that and Bluecat might come in handy should my current method fail to work.

again, i really appreciate your time and thought on this. be well!

Great idea, and I should have thought of that... does it insist on scanning your whole plug in folder(s)? Or can you just instantiate one in standalone without that rigamarole?

    again, appreciate your help...
