It's one of his best plugs, and this latest release encapsulate a lot of the tools Chris has been releasing those last three patreon years. Really cool one. Airwindows own little take on tape unit.

Very cool. I like a lot some of his plugins, and on top of that free and even open source. Hats off Chris :shalom:

Amazing plugin, thanks for the heads up !
I use Taupe on a LOT of material, but this thingy is absolutely what I needed on my 2bus on my mix right now!

I still prefer ToTape5. Especially on Drums. Because the "Fatter" functions does more to the sound that I like than the "Headbump". ToTape6 ist more sublte and maybe better suited for the Mixbus, I guess

How do you like his plugins in general? He seems to follow a cool concept. Crowdfunding his work and then give it away for free. He has a ton of plugins in his pack, and it also includes Linux versions, how cool! So, are these any good in comparison to fully commercial plugins?

Yeah, he said the new "Tape" is the definition of everything he wanted in a tape plugin. He seems proud of that one. I'm using it and it sounds great!

Tape is even more subtle than ToTape 6. But a welcomed addition.

This guy has so many plugin algos by now (over 200), I think he should get someone to build a GUI and release some sorts of commercial Plugin Suites. Like a Tape Suite, a Channel/Desk Suite or a modular Channelstrip where you can select modules from a drowpdown menu on each stage. Like the URS Channelstrip Pro back in the day did. Having everything in the form of sliders or as knobs (inside Maschine) can get boring really quickly. Some meters would be helpful at times as well. Especially when it comes to compressors and such.

You should check out Voxengos CRTIV TapeBuss then... It's incredible on the drum bus.

Will do. But I like my tapes on the master bus. On individual tracks, I use a secret weapon lol (hint: made by fuse audio labs).

These plugins don't have GUI, meaning the DAW provides a minimal control for every parameter you can change. They are minimalist in general, very low on resources. The problem is that there're a lot and many of them are self-confessed weird experiments most of us wouldn't use. For instance, he has done several weird distortion plugins only to please some of his patreons.

    So, problems:
    - Too many and many of them experimental or plain crazy with no clear classification or guide
    - Some plugins need a GUI. So you can't expect a parametric equalizer for instance

Very true. The closest thing to a useful selection are the last versions of Tracktion waveform, that come bundled with many of them. I suggest you check some videotut. As for the GUI, there's less hope.

His newly released "Tape" has become a staple on my master chain. "Dyno" and "Mojo" are some of the best fatteners/saturators around. Slap any of those two on a track and hear for yourself.

His "Purestgain" plugin is very handy as a monitoring fx in Reaper. I use it when i'm on the laptop and too lazy to use my 18i20 soundcard.

At first its a bit overwhelming but about 1 year ago I sat down and tested every single plugin, it was actually an incredible learning experience and only took 4-5 hours. Chris is unironically a hero to me, his live streams are super comfy and his level of knowledge is astounding.
This might be a weird comparison but to me he is like Terry Davis if Terry never developed his unfortunate mental health issues.
I couldn't believe how amazing his gain utility stuff sounds, even his implementation of a simple volume fader sounds phenomenal. I only wish I could afford to give him more money via patreon.

No one can hear your GUI in the mix ;-)

@Xupito Thank you for the explanation. I personally love well designed GUIs, I have to check some of his plugins out myself to see how it feels like to work with them. What are your favorites of his that you consider essential, and easy enough to understand or well documented?
