I'm running Windows 10 64 bit and I want to try out Cubase and potentially switch to it as my main DAW but I just cannot activate no matter what I do. The problem is eLicenser, it's always missing soft eLicenser (the hard drive icon thingy that stores the licenses).

I tried to run the legit Elements trial version of both 10 and 10.5 versions, I tried all the Elements and Pro versions from the sister site and none of them work, eLicenser is always empty.
I deleted everything related to Steinberg from PC and registry, reinstalled everything from scratch multiple times in all the different orders I could think of and every time the result is the same, it just can't create the soft eLicenser. I've also tried eLC Installation Helper and it always gives "Failed to install" error.

I don't know what to do, can't find any solutions on google and I have no idea how the hell to contact Steinberg support.

 

Did you follow the video instructions?

 

Antivirus will stop the instal of the licenses you have to turn it off

 

@Ikagura Something I copied from an unknown user a while ago. I hope it helps.

As soon as you install eLicenser again, run the command line as administrator and enter the key: "C:\Program Files (x86)\eLicenser\POS\SYNSOPOS.exe" /regsel

A Sel file will appear in the Program Data / Syncrosoft / folder - this is a clean license. You can immediately carry out service at eLicenser.

For me it created a fresh software license file inside elicenser.

I have the same problem in Windows 7 (x64)...and no licences in Control Center, no eLicense driver in Win control panel / Device Manager

Unfortunately this does not help. When I run the command it creates the Syncrosoft folder but can't create SeLicenser.sel file itself. VR eLicenser bundle actually puts the license file in that folder but the program itself cannot see it. Unmodified eLicenser without VR bundle installed can see that file but says that it's damaged and cannot be repaired.

 

the trial dongle driver files are still present in system32

you should delete them and re start before install the VR one's.

the driver replacement is not done of it allready exist and loaded by the system.

older version of steinberg products worked like this.
maybe the beta 15 attempt is not working, even if it is labeled "pro working" & allready nuked.

 

Nope, doesn't help either, deleted files from system32 and SysWOW64 and VR crack puts them back there. Tried replacing these files on unmodified eLicenser with VR ones and vice versa, still no result.

 

Try Presonus S1, it is roughly the same thing (except it's faster workflow), plus no headaches; and its cheaper, also the hardware that integrates with it is cheaper.

 

Already have Studio 1, got it for free with some hardware I've bought. I like it for recording but not really for composing and mixing, also there's no surround mixing as far as I know, which is the primary reason I want to switch to Cubase.

 

Well, if you are into advanced mixing or post. production , you don't have that much choice in terms of DAWs. I don't think that Cubase is that great, too, their main target group is midi composers. Their other product - Nuendo, also Pro tools and Sequoia are popular choices for this. Nuendo atm is at 40% discount.
