I should quote him nicely because he got the focal twins but i saw the build on the video. Initially, they had the space to build floating room in a room and they didn't. Bad decision imho. This kind of "isolation" will neither hold much from getting out nor getting in. I 'd like to see them record vocals with those twins cranked up hehehe...

I agree with you 100%. While I was watching the video I was waiting for that to take place. Not only did they have the space, they had the skill to do it. "A room within a room" has an enormous effect on the tracking and mixing. Indeed, the best builders will go as far as isolating the foundation that borders the rooms.

 

All that dosh and he's still sporting a cheese grater Mac Pro from 2010? Don't get me wrong, I hate the newer Macs that you can't modify in any way without taking to an Apple store or an authorized Apple repair tech, but if you have that kind of cash to throw around, you can afford a maxed-out black air freshener or an iMac Pro. Like my MBP 2012, his tower is due to be obsolete in maybe two more years.

 

I am sure he didnt just buy his gear. And anyway, the studio treatment should be first on the list.

 

Did he even measure the frequency response of those focals before he even started remodeling his room?
A few good bass traps in all corners, upper ceiling, first reflections and back wall diffusers would probably be a saner decision and he would probably get similar results.

 

OK, got your point mate.
But spending $50,000 for that kind of roomtreatment (for those who are not great in DIY like me) to save $10,000 for great headphones doesn't sound like a bargain.
For most of us I think both solutions are off limits.

If I had the money and the space to build that kind of studio, I would definitely choose room treatment over headphones. But it isn't that way, so I have a mediocre room and good headphones. But I'm happy with both.
As my home is directly built at the side of a highway, there is no chance to get a room built quiet enough, so I spent a little more for headphones and nothing for (more) room treatment.
As always: it depends.

 

This is not a "home studio". It is a (somewhat sloppy) try to build a professional studio at home.

Measurements and some intelligent treatments like @hackerz4life mentioned is the way to go in a home studio.

it looks nice, it is fun for sure to make music in that environment.

 

IMO, there is one thing that comes before treating acoustically a "studio".. that is - building a "studio". He is just treating acoustically a space that was never meant to be a studio, and the floor plan is totally fucked up.

There are so many things wrong with this, his main problem being the wall behind the sitting position, which is probably a structure supporting the whole house.. even considering the beautiful diffuser he puts on it (acknowledging the problem), that should be at least a couple of meters further back.. I would even consider rotating everything 90 deg, but the place is small aso, aso..

Totally, but sometimes there's a writer's block, and people start doing crazy things..;)

Hmmm... as thermal insulation for the walls and ceilings of his crib, the job is a good 'un. As an acoustic treatment, it's not so great. But at least he'll be nice and toasty warm. And possibly much slimmer as a result of sweating off the pounds inside that wonderful techno-sauna wired for sound.
