There is a Yamaha DX-1 for sale in the bay, for 39900 €. Just a good years' salary for many people.
Since it is basically two DX-7 put together in a case with wooden sides, with some additions and enhancements on the panel, I stood back from buying it, but felt compelled to notify my fellow audiosexers about it.
What do you think, is it worth nearly 40 k € ?

Very rare synth only 140 ever produced. Its probably the holy grail of FM synthesis. Also look at the list of notable users.
40k makes sense but I personally could think of better ways to spend it.

It's a beautiful thing, but it's not worth anywhere near that money in terms of musical value.

Collectors only, these days - the sounds you can get anywhere...

With that said, in the vintage synth market you can ask whatever price someone is willing to pay.

That is a crazy price. But if someone pays it then I guess it's worth it (to that person). I owned one of the first minimoog's ever built in Bob's garage. Going by the DX1 price that should be worth over $50k now!

 

Someone buy it please, then send it to R2R so they can crack it.

 

If they manage to do so, I wonder if they'll upload it to FedEx.

 

I'd love to spend Friday night with that beauty, a six pack and my dab rig.

Actually, my previous answer notwithstanding... If money was no real object to me I would buy it. It's gorgeous. It's the one Yamaha digital synth I would want. I put it in the same category as the Prophet T8 or Prophet 10... a big rare beast! I doubt I'd play it much. I would just have it somewhere with some nice lighting where it could be seen.

 

I'd rather wait for the Yamaha R2R real hardware emulator that is probably just around the corner with all the recent developments. Plus, it will start up faster and produce richer sounds.
