Especially if your DAW has dry/wet control per plugin like Reaper does, it's easy to do it with any compressor that sounds good to you with extreme settings.

When it comes to Waves, their CLA compressors, RenComp, and API-2500 could all do the job, with the latter two being a bit too clean for that IMHO. Usually something with a nice [saturated] sound character works best.

Optimally you would want to have a plugin with seperate knobs for dry and wet if you do the parallel compression on an insert only. PSP Audioware has an 1176 which does have seperate knobs for DRY and WET signal. I wished mor companies would do that.

No, he is not that guy. I have watched literally every video tutorial by him. He doesn't like to use parallel compression on the mix bus. Maybe it was Steven's masterclass you viewed not Chris'.

For general mixing purposes, DMG's Compassion, Emperical Labs Arouser, Klanghelm's DC1A (especially for Bass,) or DC8C and any of Fuse's/Black Rooster's compressors--really, it just depends on what instrument I'm using it on and what I need it to accomplish. (Though not compressors, SPL's Attacker Plus and Transient Designer often allow me to go shape and tame/excite aspect of a track and go lite on the compression, which is always good since I try not to squash the shit out of my tracks.) I do try and stay open to new compressors, but most of the newer ones I've found to be solid, don't really bring anything new to the table but instead, seem to be kind of niche plugins, which is fine for unique circumstances or certain mix issues, but the above are my list of go-to's.

It's not typical for him but he definitely did it once. Anyway, that's just one example that we don't need to fuss about.

Haha. Because, re. commercial releases, I'd a) instantly lose my anonimity, which is nice to have in life for once and b) I'm not about to "share" uncopyrighted wop wip, for obvious reasons.
Why not ask some of the members who also agree with my stance re. parallel compression?
Also, I never think of asking someone like @No Avenger (whom I have respect for) to 'show and tell', because that persons words prove enough to me. So why fixate on me? Just because I'm not as concise & eloquent as them?
    But thanks for the offer.

    Sorry, only just seen these.
I like the fact that usually the technique involves using a bus, which can be printed and mixed in.

Well, these tools and others are all a type of compression, and all stem from compression.

For the drum buss is what I sometimes like the added distortion on top of the over the top compression (if on the stereo buss, since I have only the one hardware unit, I use the Black Rooster iteration...not that I have lately been writing rollicking tunes that warrant slamming drums, but even so...). So, but your keen observation it cannot be said that this slamming away with an 1176 is Parallel Compression. On the very few times that I felt that my vocal needed to pop out above the fray (I have chilled down close to absolute zero these last few years) I have used Pro-C.:excl:

Smarmy comment, focused on me, rather than one of the actual masters here.
Allow me to now ignore, thanks.

Ah yes. U refer to your first comment:
Btw, "yo", as in when u signed off with "Peace Yo", means like hello or a greeting.
Unlike 'Y'all', which means everybody, and would make sense in 'Peace y'all'.

Okay, I'm sorry. I did choose for some reason to decide it was me you were talking to, at that early stage of the thread.

On a technical level you are, of course, correct. I was just going with the broader/generic definition, as they don't have Ratio, Threshold, or any of the other added features, such as knee, hysteresis, etc..
    Sorry for any confusion. :shalom:
