    MIDI 2.0 probably:

    https://www.midi.org/articles-old/details-about-midi-2-0-midi-ci-profiles-and-property-exchange

Roland just released a keyboard with MIDI 2.0 support, (https://cdm.link/2020/01/roland-a-88mkii-midi2/), yeah, it ain't cheap, but a lot of big players are in so prices will eventually fall.

hi there, I'm having a similar issue since months and still don't have a solution. When I record with VSTi's (with every controller I have, both via MIDI or USB), after the recording the MIDI events are shifted BEFORE the time. It means that I can't have recorded what I really play, I only have recorded events shifted before my time. And this is clear if I play MIDI and AUDIO at the same time, from the same keyboard (in this case a Viscount Legend Live, only hardware kb I have): there a space between the 2 recordings, MIDI is always before the audio. and it's really annoying listen to the MIDI and other tracks, because it seems I'm playing bad, before the time.

I already wrote to Steinberg, they told me everything and I tried everything, but nothing could help me. I have this in Cubase 10 Pro, but tried with Reaper and having this too.

With a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 (1st gen) in my setup, but this happened with other friends' setup too: always Cubase 9/9.5, with a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 1st gen and a Steinberg UR28M.

The last thing that I have to do, is formatting and re-install OS (Windows 10 LTSC 1903). Does anyone have this?

Don't you guys nudge your tracks into position after recording them? I do it for every single track, midi or audio. It's interesting what difference a small change on every track can make to the vibe. I always start with the drums & bass, and then add everything else.

I don't like adjusting it manually. I'd like to have everything in position as I played it

fl studio has a setting to apply a standard nudge, I think it's important while on this topic to
distinguish jitter/drift from old' simple input delay. which are actually 2 different things.

the fact is, that it's not delay. it's the opposite: things are moved before, not after. I think it's right to say backwards, seeing it in the DAW windows. I have events moved to the LEFT. so it isn't latency, delay or something, I can't understand it.

This question for real? Jitter free? Midi equals message....message takes some time...it does not mean the message is bad...midi possibly not at fault?...Drivers and all that real world action possibly the culprit...good luck

    Playback tracking
Can solve jittery/incorrect playback position indicators OR solve Audio recording alignment problems with the Playlist. NOTE: Low Buffer Length settings can also improve positional accuracy.

    • Playback tracking source:
      • Driver - The audio driver is used for playback position. NOTE: If your audio interface has a manufacturer-supplied driver, you should select it in the Device menu and use 'Driver' mode for optimal performance.
      • Hybrid - Driver/Mixer hybrid position. This option can be effective to fix visual jitter of the playhead or timing errors to solve audio/video timing problems that can happen with some audio devices.
      • Mixer (default) - The Mixer position is used. This works acceptably when the buffer latency is around 10ms (441 samples), or less, to solve audio/video timing problems that can happen with some audio devices. NOTE: If you are using a 3rd party Audio Interface, prefer 'Driver' mode.
    • Offset - Use this to correct the location of recorded notes or to correct the position of FL Studio's Playhead (the vertical green line in the Playlist and Piano roll). This may be necessary if the audio device driver does not report its position correctly. Before using this control make sure positional errors are NOT caused by:OR if the playhead position and other visuals don't align with the audio, use the slider to add positive or negative offset to realign the Play & record position. This is a global change to all tracks. If you need to make changes to individual audio INPUTs, use the Mixer Track Audio Input Delay Control to shift the audio for that specific audio input.

I have exactly the same problem with my setup,it's just latency.
I'm not an expert in computers like some members here but I would say there's some latency between the moment you press the keys on your keyboard and the time your computer is taking to record. So the audio playback is delayed,so your notes are shifted on the left.

But it's not the worst problem, you can apply a track delay once you've recorded your track ,as @Zenarcist said.I do this always.

The worst problem is when you have midi jitter, because it's an unpredictable, random delay.

They have been adjusting tape manually since the beginning of multi-track recording, but the reason why I do it is to experiment with the rushing and dragging, it is a powerful musical tool.

I think you are confusing delay and anticipation, latency/delay should move notes to the right, not to the left.

but anyways, I don't think it's a thing that I should ignore or bypass simply by finding a turnaround. I'd like to find a real solution and know the cause of the problem.

    anyway, thanks

This is normal and its because:
    1. it takes time for the midi notes to arrive and trigger the virtual instrument
    2. it takes time for the virtual instrument and its effects to be processed into audio
    3. it takes time for your sound driver to output the audio

nope... i'm talking of recorded things. when i playback the two recordings (MIDI and AUDIO), MIDI is always BEFORE audio. and it's not that audio is delayed, because I hear audio in time (16 of buffer). it's MIDI that is shifted before, to the left. after having recorded

Are you plugging your keyboard in via usb or 5-pin midi cables? Also you said, you tried the same keyboard but on your friends setup? I ask, because at this point the thing common among the different setups is the keyboard or the connection of the keyboard. Can you try a different controller? Or does your keyboard have sliders or faders? What happens if you record midi information from them, are they ahead in time?

Because if you tried every option in Cubase that is midi or time related, but that didn't fix the problem. The only option left as the cause of the problem is the keyboard itself. Does it have any midi related settings in the keyboard itself?

Not sure if those comments stemmed from the fact of not using a USB hub for linking your controller keyboard?

sorry for not having clarified this before, you're right:

I have issues with all of my instruments (Studiologic SL88 Grand, Roland A800 Pro, Viscount Legend Live, Line6 MobileKeys 25). I tried both MIDI 5pin and USB, with my SL88 (with and without external alimentation), same results.

when I tried with my friends' setup, I used their controllers: an M-Audio Keystation (mk2 or 3) and that new little Native Instruments keyboard (25 mini keys).

The problem seems to be quite general

  19. My experiences might be different, but I still use a 5pin DIN MIDI cable connected to my audio interface on both in and out.
    Latency is negligible.
Many have spoken of the intricacies and one person mentioned that their interface is USB to the computer but MIDI cable which is pretty close to my setup and they also had no issues. Having a keyboard with a 5pin MIDI DIN and USB is probably a good choice. A weighted 88 note keyboard is also good for many reasons with a lot of the software out there using switches in the lower keys (though many can be reassigned).
