Sorry, I didn't make that clear- he had MIDI files of himself performing that he wanted audio files of but he didn't like the sound of any pianos they could be realized on.

    Lol!

    Whoops, you're right.

One should never ask the question. Always settle for less. Aspire to mediocrity. Never seek the opinion of others.

That's exactly how a lot of people make tons of money in the music industry.

At first, I found this comment flippant and cynical.

But then, upon reflection, I find sadly that it's pretty much the philosophy that my career has been based upon.

...not sure about the "tons of money" bit though.

That's exactly what I meant with the Steinway link, while it seems not many understood that.

i can't believe how people are still recommending pianoteq, that thing sounds like shit...

try the imperfect samples pianos, they sound more real and atmospheric than all the stuff out there

I never liked Pianoteq until the latest version, and while I still don't like several of the pianos, I like a couple of them a lot, especially with tweaking. One big trick (for me) is to never leave that piano condition slider over to the left on mint. Slide that puppy a bit to worn, it takes care of some of the too-damn-perfect sterility.

Yeah, I tend to agree. At the recommendation of others I downloaded the trial version. A bit tinny and nasty to my ears.

I like the imperfect samples libraries, but they're very coloured - which can be a blessing or a curse depending on the piece and style.

Well, a little ridiculous for too many reasons to mention. For starters, I'm a bit of a hack but my programming is pretty good - sequence recording allows me to get away with murder (and I do). Difficult to do that with an actual piano. And to my ears, Steinway is far from the best acoustic piano for recording (IMHO), people tend to overplay the significance of the Steinway sound....usually those who haven't actually recorded one.

talking about bad piano sampled libraries... had you tried the soundiron montclarion piano?

i've just downloaded it, tried it and deleted it in 10 minutes, my god AWFUL tinny sound, the dynamics are a disaster, i'ts incredible the amount of CRAP that can be selled with good marketing, god bless piracy

    Yeah.

Amazingly bad. If you listen carefully you can hear the Soundiron guys sniggering in the background.

As much as Im not a fan of Spectrasonics Keyscape with a bit of processing some of the grands are almost passable. Certainly better than Synthogy.

I'd make fun of the piano snobbery but I can't because when it comes to a Hammond organ sound I'm probably worse... :winker:

Yeah. Once you've played a real B3 through twin Leslie's you can never really go back.

Nope. Admittedly, things have improved a lot recently, if you're playing live in a rock band in a mix you can get away with a lot. But it's not the same.

It's a beast though. You need three guys to move it, it's constantly breaking down, there's only one guy in Australia who can really service them (and he's 1000kms away)...but shit, when it's working, its a total motherfucker. No plugin is EVER going to push air like that.
