    I'm in shock.:(

What an inspiration he was for so many drummers. His legendary and epic beats will live on.
So sad to hear this news.

Oh no. I didn't even know he was in trouble, it's just a few months that I watched a numbers about him, his music, his concepts, his philosophy, his motorcycle tours etc etc...

I feel for the Rush bandmates. Must be a terrible experience to lose him this early.

Sadly it’s true, one of the worlds best musician has past but left us a legacy of brilliant work, let’s hope he’s having a beer with Bonham

:( Ahhhh...weak. Rush was one of the older bands that I had been meaning to see for years and kept putting off. :(

When I started playing drums it was to Neil Peart--along with a lot of other very eclectic influences ranging from Bill Ward, Gar Samuelson and Clyde Stubblefield to Michael McBrain, Ginger Baker and Sean Reinert, among other others--so this is kind of a personal bummer.
Neil was the drummer who gave me the epiphany (thankfully, early on,) that you shouldn't be bashing out fills every two seconds, and, basically, to keep the song grounded, only adding to it when necessary. This may sound odd since Neil was known for his crazy solos, but he always treated the his kit more like an instrument plus, Rush was always a band that I thought orchestrated their tracks well, in the sense that it was never everyone soloing at once, so the drums always played a powerful role, even in their restraint. :)

At the end of the day, I guess that you can't really ask for much more in this life than posterity; leaving a unique catalogue of music for people to enjoy, and inspiring countless people to sweat blood while trying to emulate the man's flair--that's a life well-lived.

This is such a hard blow for me as he (and they) were a big influence on me as a drummer growing up. He was a great drummer (who still played in a way that it enhanced/elevated the song), but most of all he was a brilliant lyricist. Total bummer!
    Rest In Peace, Neil Peart.
