Kaspersky is great but is a system hogger.. (not for producers I would say) I tried them all many years ago and when I tried Malwarebytes I never looked back. runs in the back with no bells and whistles.. download the free Malewarebytes and see for yourself.. pay for real time protection if you need it.. I use to pay but now I only use free malwarebytes as I'm that confident with it..

Well it is a matter of preference, I prefer macOS GUI it looks much cleaner for my taste. There are tiny things which makes a huge difference.. for me. eg all window positions are remembered in macOS. In macOS we have one file dialog which looks anywhere the same , in Windows we have many differet looking etc , but again it is just my preference

Oh, I was talking about different Windows versions, not Mac OS. I agree, Mac OS GUI has always been better, though it has its own problems.

That's true but it's not Windows fault, it's because Mac OS software is way more controlled and censored sometimes.
Pros: they have the same Look and feel like you said, more security
Cons: many people doesn't develop small-medium complexity applications because they're forced to do extra work to please Apple rules. typically involving using the standard Mac IDE (programming app) which is XCode or working really hard to give an equivalent outcome.

However, KVRT *IS* ideal, it's portable, doesn't run unless you tell it to run, and uses the same virus detection algorithms as the main kaspersky product.

My approach to virus detection is to run KVRT on a routine, but have all other aspects of 'virus detection' disabled in windows 10 via an organisational policy setting (Windows Security Centre is blissfully unaware of KVRT so if you don't disable virus detection, but run KVRT, it'll still try and force Defender and it's horrible runtime performance penalty)

Kaspersky also has a much more efficient free version than Windows defender

The BEST AV is NO AV!

That's the one I use! I stopped using AV since 2012. And since then I had a "0" virus related problem! "ZERO"!!!
When I use to install AV programs (a bunch and all legit) there use to be a bunch of viruses all over the place!

Of course, as soon as I am informed with the virus my faithfull AV deletes the threat and tells me that I am safe now!!!
But for some strange reason as soon as I stopped using an AV program that runs in the background, viruses disappeared!
Obviously I SCAN my system periodically with MalvareAV. That's how I know there are no viruses in my system.

Not to mention I am very cautious and suspicious in my dealings with the WEB! You have to be smart, that's why I got rid of AV in the first place...

Getting rid of AV is not just about AV! Not only the whole system becomes more comfortable but also it eliminates all kinds of stupid potential windows problems in the future... I've never been happier with win!

So, The BEST AV is NO AV!
    Just saying...

Yes, lets hope our Russian friends support Bernie Sanders this year. Ok, that was my first and last political statement. I promise. But hey, who's keeping his promise.

    I Agree
I have two VMs one for testing new software, and one for the Internet (Esset AV + MalwareBytes). The main PC is optimized for audio (I have disable many services and startup programs). But I will move to VirtualBox --> Lubuntu (very light and reliable). The PC is I7 6 cores with 24 Gb ram so I can have VM up all time)
For backup I use Acronis live CD, by far more reliable (by the way I don't trust on line backup while the operating system is running)

Personally i dont ever program whilst connected to the internet.
Ive my old laptop i use for downloading and visiting whatever sites i want etc etc.,
And then ive a desktop system for production with every service associated with network connectivity and a heap of others disabled too!

Anyway, a great standalone anti virus that is manually controlled is called >>"Exterminate it"
When ive been infected and no anti virus i tried could detect the malware, "and i tried almost everything i could", Exterminate it detected and removed the most stubborn and most difficult to remove and deeply embedded viruses, and i still use it to this day..
And no its never once detected a false positive from any of my studio software and DAWS either....

If you want a realtime anti virus that has the lowest system impact and anything quarantined easily ignored and put back in place with ease, then Bit Defender would be my choice...~

Before i upgraded to a new desktop system, and used this laptop im using online now, i used bit defender and exterminate it in conjunction, as bit def can easily be totaly disabled..
And if ever i got infected , Exterminate it removed the virus with ease, and ive never encountered a virus or adware etc, that it couldnt remove, Whereas all the other anti virus's i tried failed dismally...

Sinewave has some great points of interest too, "i tip my hat to you mr wave"

Impossible task... life would be pointless...
I have a dual boot and backup one partition with the other. Now Acronis CDs are reliable, but years ago...:deep_facepalm::suicide:

I use Comodo containers a lot, sometimes VM shiet to make sure. Imaged 2nd computer works nice, but needs tracking on the installer and the quantum entanglement through xl px tbr processing which most don't track unless you use ggh2 pro stuff. But that's just my anxiety overkill stuff.

EDIT: sporry a litte drunk replace the xl px with the appropriate stuff.
