I can tell you about one audio myth... having 50 soft compressors and 666 plugins will make you a pro.

When all you need is a couple of compressors, but you have to know how to use them, and when you know how to use them any compressors, or EQs, reverbs, delays etc. will do just fine.

Before all the arguments start, can we clearly distinguish between 'MYTHS' and the core beliefs from my religion.

    My religion states...
    • You cannot do serious audio processing with any of the tens of thousands of plugins currently hiding on your hard drives. You must wait for next year's plugins to be released.
    • All discussion of Windows 10 are a waste of time. Audio will not work properly until Microsoft releases Windows 11.
    • If your DAW is not permanently connected to the Internet it will automatically be hopelessly out of date, and you will cease to exist.
    and last but not least...
    • You cannot make proper music unless you have music theory pouring out of every orifice.
So, moderators please, if anyone commits blasphemy by referring to my religion as 'Myths' please apply appropriate sanctions.

    ---

obviously @SineWave issuing sane comments is already clearly borderline blasphemous!

I may not know it all, but because I am old enough and talented enough to have been working in studios as a musician and audiophile before digital effect, much less VST- existed. I worked with the 1st lexicons, Harmonizers, and ProTools when it was just 2 track stereo editing. I have worked since 8 tracks was all that was avaiable in the best studios. 90% of all VST is modeled or designed to sound like the same tech I was using before VST. Sooo, I know a lot more than most of you, but not as much as Baxter. lol

I am a skeptic, so this kind of myth debunking is right up my alley.
But, as a skeptic I am aware of confirmation bias, so I must not allow myself to watch it.

This consolidates so much of what is true for too many of us.
I try my hardest to setup my operating system, DAW and plug-ins that I know I'll USE, then get on with it.

I still have the bug though - I want to update/upgrade/chop 'n' change my setup, which inevitably limits my progress in any and all projects I'm working on at the time. It's an addiction. An illness.

Winer is a mythbuster in audio matter.
You should read also his "The Audio Expert" where many audio myths are demolished.

And for reverse speech it's no surprise, I don't think it has a really tremendous effect, but for sure it moves a business.

A good song that is well arranged can transcend bad production.
