Is the sister site considered part of the dark web? I thought the dark web was like a section of the internet where you can buy drugs with bitcoin and stuff like that, but I was talking to a friend about the sister site and he tried to warn me to stay away from the dark web, I told him it's not the dark web, but now I'm really not sure.

One more question, since just about everything I would want is on the sister site, then there's no reason to ever go on the dark web, correct?
I'm guessing it's main purpose is for serious criminal stuff and there's probably no software or anything good there, so it seems like there's really no reason for a broke musician to be on there if he has no criminal intent. I would never buy drugs, from the internet. I am a little curious just to see what it looks like but curiosity killed the cat so I will stay away.

There are three areas of the Internet:
www = indexed web (google, yahoo, bing,...)
deep web = unindexed web (90% of the web)
dark web = tiny part of deep web

The dark web is accessible through TOR browsers. The pages have another structure and language. There are no names for websites, just alpha numerical combinations with the. onion extension. Pages often change address in the dark web. It is not the place to search for music or software. You find that in the world wide web and in the deep web. The dark web is very slow and primitive, because it uses a lot of proxies to hide traces. Moreover it is full of thieves, criminals and policemen.

Wow, thanks for that cryptbear. I have more than enough criminals thieves and policemen around where I live so I'm definitely not looking for more of that. I appreciate the education gentlemen, I was afraid to search these questions on google, I actually learned something today.

 

The dark web is another world, it's the wild west of the internet. It's a good thing that it exists though, that's where real freedom still exists online. That real freedom comes with self policing and risk though. What you do in this freedom zone depends on your personal morality and actions. Nothing to be scared of if you're just browsing. It's not all crime (which is subjective to begin with). Go learn about the TOR browser and onion routing, there's lots of info out there and it's simple to use.

 

I'm curious, what is an example of something "good" there that isn't out here in the light?
I should read up on some stuff, but I haven't heard or read anything anywhere that suggests there is anything good, "good" meaning something other than what cryptbear and Pinkman mentioned, maybe like music related or something along those lines, I've only ever heard of the type of examples that they mentioned.

There's a bunch of tutorials and blogs online, dig around you'll find plenty of info and a bunch of onion address links too.

 

As for your other question - really it's endless because there's no censorship. There's archives of anything you can imagine, good and bad (again subjective). True there is a lot of sick shit, but there's also a lot of sick shit in reality period. You will find what you look for. btw- there's a lot of clandestine info based on protection from tyranny. Hong Kong ring a bell? Whatever is being censored up here, is wide open down there. There are patriots as well as scumbags. There are people that will protect you and people that will exploit you. Tread carefully with common sense.

 

A lot of people think that in the dark web you have more freedom and less censorship. If you use a VPN and proxies, don't use your real name and data in the www, you have the same "freedom" there. As the police know that in the dark web the main users are criminals, you are more controlled than in the normal web. And it's not true that your traces there are not trackable.
I used the dark web for a period of time, but sincerely I can't find any useful stuff in there. It's all about doing criminal things: druqs, arms, child p****graphy, te**oristic organisations, bitcoin stealers, document cloners, virus producers, ki**ing assignments ...

I think if you really want to have freedom, you have to develop your own browser with its own language and websites in the deep web.

i dont think so...its a the badest place...for ppl not even imagable what happens there ..what you can buy there...ppl will click funny button on that comment but dont even know a dime bout....

www was and is still free partly....darkweb is just sick instead of drug sites...but drugs should be legalized...even cops want it now but establishment is not interested in making things good and balanced
they want scissor spread to maximum...no middle class no middle politix..

btw many things ppl thing its darknet is done also in clearweb...you can get prescription drugs in clear net etc..
