Rigid Audio seems shady, they always have these ridiculous discounts and inflate their recommended retail price. Also it looks like the dev screwed over some of his former customers whom he promised to make some kind of plugin for and ran away with the money or something? I think I read something about that somewhere.

And I strongly dislike AIR Music Tech, these guys will ignore complaints for months and years, promise updates that never arrive, all the while releasing new products. Can't stand this kind of behavior. No wonder their stuff is always on sale for very low prices, and sometimes they even give away something for free.

Sonivox often has their Orchestral Companions on sale, might look tempting for a few bucks but they also don't fix critical issues (modwheel doesn't work for swells). Interestingly, both AIR and Sonivox use iLok.

re: Fabfilter, apparently they regularly have sales. Check out r/audioproductiondeals on reddit, the guys running it are very thorough, and you can search that subreddit and get a good overview of when which company ran what kind of sale.

I personally like W.A. and Soundspot, sure their business model is pretty much based on the same "let's inflate our retail prices and do sales allll the time" model but I haven't found them to be fraudulent or unfriendly, they engage their customers, so if you have a couple of bucks to spare and see an interesting plugin, then why not buy it.

Apparently Soothe is getting 50% this friday. Some guys subscribed to Oeksound's newsletters were discussing that in a facebook group.

I'd stay well clear of ANYTHING made by Tone2. I wouldn't touch their stuff even if it was free!

This. I bought the brass the other week for layering and it's still broken. You can (as I did) assign the mod wheel to the filter with 1-pole to give a fake crossfade. But yeah, buyers beware.

I recently purchased Union by Soundspot and despite the negative comments on it about CPU usage, it's a good sound design tool and for 6 pounds there is nothing wrong about it, I create the waveform on it, then re-sample it on other samplers to obtain very crisp and original sounds. Before buying something, I always try to avoid GAS syndrome and I ask a simple question to myself: "Why are you buying this product?" and if my answer is "I don't know", then don't buy it. I disagree on making a list of bad brands, after all, making music is a creative process, even the apparently worst and stupid tool can be useful to create something unique, so try it before buy. I also agree on freeware such as Surge, it's absolutely better than many paid equivalents.

Several years ago they brought out products which damaged your pc with viruses and other nasty bugs. It didn't matter whether you paid for them or not. I remember people saying it caused SO much damage that a full re-installation was needed

All Soundspot plugins I've tried render muddy and dull sound.
I would add PSP Audioware to the list, except for their preQursor 2 2.0 which is just great.

Expensive plugin for rich people. I may never have the plugin. I'll buy TDR NOVA GE instead.

Avoid 70's & 80's hardware consoles from Neve, API & SSL as you will get some buzz and hiss in your recordings from the analogue components. The Waves VST versions are noise-free and cheaper on electricity too

Beatskillz stuff is authentic, they have not ripped anyone. That's a very ignorant claim tbh.

If you don't remove it immediately after the pass, or use it in a plugin chain, it will ruin all of the rest.
