Behringer Submitted Trademarks For Over 10 Synthesizers Including The MONOPOLY
November 19, 2019 Synth Anatomy Hardware, News, Synthesizers 11

Behringer has submitted a trademark application for the name MONOPOLY in the EU & USA, so a Korg Mono/Poly Synthesizer clone is coming.

Not only the MONOPOLY was registered at the Trademark but many others. Blue Marvin, Kobol, Polykobol, Polivoks, Synthex, Trident, Quadra, Source, Prodigy, Logan, Pro-16, Pro-800
I don't know about you but I can't afford all that. Well. Not all at once.

Behringer is starting to look like a hardware equivalent to Arturia.

I hope there's competition or else their prices gonna rise... Well, it's already happening, Poly D is not cheap.

Mono/Poly is some really great shit. Kinda like Korg's MiniMoog Plus. 4 oscillators, unison, poly... great filter. I love it. I always wanted to have one. Can't wait! They should also start making Eurorack modules from all these designs, like 100 euro a pop. That would be incredible. :P

On the other hand, I'm strictly against monopolies... so I really dislike this all patents belong to us thing. That doesn't look good.

Meh.. Behringer's garbage. I prefer to save my money a little longer and buy a product that will survive longer than 4 years and can be serviced in case of damage.

I'm willing to try out these new iterations, being old enough to have owned or used most of the originals.
As for quality, I've been lugging my Neutron all over the place in a hockey bag with no problems.

I also took Behringitis disease, here is part of my setup:
    - Odyssey
    - RD8
    - 8200 adat interface
    - TD-3 (preorder)
    - PolyD (preorder)
Built quality is decent, everything works and I can't complain until now

Same for me! After owning pretty much all of the originals over the years it's still fascintating to see how close Behringer can get.
People have been screaming out for exact remakes since as long as I can remember but it's only Behringer who have decided to go for it. The sounds are so close to the orginals I'm sure this will be the last time we see 101/303/808/909/ ARP/ MOOG etc etc being cloned.

I swapped my 303 for a Jupiter 6 in 1996 because I already considered the 303 to be "overdone" by then.
Little did I know the hoardes of people all queing up to make indentical sounds eachother 25 years later!

The Jupiter 8 was my absolut dream synth in the 80s and its still (I think)...cant imagine how many hours I've spent in a shop here in hamburg playing around with it (at the age of 14) when me and my parents went to the city doing some shopping. I've always said...Give me a point to meet again, do your shopping...and I directly went to the store and played around with it for about 4 hours. I ever dreamt of buying one but it was soooo incredible expensive.

Yes it's a shame Behringer does not give more attention to reliability and built quality.
I read many problems on their recent synths, like CV doesn't work on MS101 and Pro1,midi not accurate, some faders not correctly solded on the Odyssey, bad switches on the ModelD,etc...Although I didn't search for "problems with Behringer synths" on Google.

Yeah, that's absolutely reasonable. This one was equipped with Kenton Midi. Unfortunately it was not mine. My partner in crime owned it. He bought it at the price of 1250.-€ (2.500 DM) in 1999 and sold it 2 Years ago for about 13.000.-€. Mine were the Monopoly and the Roland Sh-9. But we fruthermore owned together a shitload of Hardware Equipment at that time and hell yeah, two 17" CRTs and a PC with Windows XP on it, running Cubase. That was the pre-plugin aera. We needed that stuff to make music at that time.I have to admit that now, nearly 20 years later, i have a little tear in my eye, watching these pictures. But times won't come back and for that kind of music which we made and still make plugins are in many ways a better choice nowadays. I nevdertheless contemplate to reinvest in analog hardware stuff meanwhile and recently ordered a blue TD-3 though the 303 being still here, alive and kicking. I can't help feeling an urge to get the inspiration again that only real hardware gives.
