Layer it with top synth (wavetable maybe). Or use multibanddistortion. I would go with multi-band-distortion. You can also mix in some noise.

hey baxter, how you handle 0-40 hz range? some tell me cut off everything below 40 but I'm not so sure about that... how you use hp filters on kick/808 or you dont do that all? also for example if I make oneshot 808 samples for others, is there a usual way ? whats common in the industry? also kicks . use hp or not. think its also a point how u use that stuff togehter etc... what is your experience ?

    I lowcut at 20Hz in mastering. :)

"808" is just sine usually (originally). No harmonics. It's when you saturate and layer you get harmonics/overtones, which you then control to your liking (lowpass, shelving EQ, bell EQ, etc).

When layering kicks it can be good to add some amplitude envelope (or ducking) on the bass/808, so there is less masking.

You can make it with "Ring Modulation". if you have fl studio use it in the "precomputed effects tab" just play with the RM MIX knob. (With RM Freq you can chose the frecuency)
