Adam A7X Monitors With Adam Sub7 - Feedback Please!

    So what are your reference monitors,please?
    From my experience it's essential to know your studio monitors and your room.But a good studio monitor is a good studio monitor,I doubt you need much time/practice with ATC monitors for example.

    Infact Im pretty impressed how much sub these monitors delivers when you consider the size they have. Im still testing and Im getting more and more :bow::bow::bow::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::woot::woot::woot::like::like::like: and ask myself: why the heck didnt I do this way back - best buy I´ve done for a very long time.

    I dont think the Adam A7X monitors are hooked up on any specific genre :no:, so............

    Just out of curiosity:

    Has any of you have the Adam Sub7 up running with a pair of Adam A7X?

    And if...... any real improvements that´s worth it ?

    I haven't tried it but,
    I think you should be looking at a 10" sub to complement your 7" A7X monitors mate. Something like an Adam Sub 10 mkII. Doesn't make much sense to match dual 7"s with a 7" sub, if only to increase max spl and perhaps extend the low range a tiny bit.

    If i was you, i 'd ask Adam directly (and i'm quite sure they will agree with me hehehe).
    If it can be of any help, my main workhorses in the studio are Focal Twin6 Be and Sub6. The Focals are dual 6.5", 350w each and the matched sub is 11" @350W. You typically add a sub to extend the freq range and perhaps increase SPL too. I make a lot of dance music and remixes so for me it was a no brainer, but even with classical and jazz, the sub addition is something i never regretted and still loving it very much so :)
    For your case i would even consider the 12", if money is no object of course :).

    Adam Audio recommends AX7 + Sub 10 as best combo. Of course, it all depends on your room size and $$$ :winker:

    Sub size is one thing, I wouldn't go for a small sub either but the sub and its placement also has to match the speakers sound-wise. If you're using the A5X or A7X, you have very "fast" speakers that need a sub that sounds tight enough and of course a room with acoustics that support it too. Large subs don't necessarily deliver that, it really depends on the model. Then, integrating a sub can complicate things quite a bit because you'll really want to improve the overall sound instead of boosting but mushing up the low end.
    If I wanted to really judge about the low end, I'd use my headphones anyway.

    Then you must be some kind of genius mate and i don't mean to be rude or sarcastic in any way.
    My point is, even on the best headphones you don't get the bass frequencies' physical vibration through your body, you hear the bass but don't "feel" it. Headphones can be much more revealing than speakers when judging mix details or individual channels timbres and stereo spectrum/panning, but they lack the "oomph" you get on the low frequencies with speakers. Headphone manufacturers know this and most headphone pairs have the bass boosted 3-4db all the way up to ~450-500hz to sort of compensate for this loss. But it's never the same as the bass coming from a speaker, especially when it's a strong, tight top notch subwoofer as in our case.
    This is why when mixing, while it is always advised to double check with a good pair of headphones and even cheapo cans, we normally use speakers. You see, if headphones was the best way to judge low end, mastering studios would ditch their really expensive -5 and even 6 figure worth- speaker sets and settle for a 3-5k audiophile headphone pair and end of story. But with mastering its always speakers first and everything else is secondary.

    Dont just follow blindly what people tell you. If you can afford it buy both at Thomann and then keep the one that fits your room/preferences.
    You could always turn down the bass or volume on the 10" but you cant make 7" any louder and will be working hard if pushed.
    I would measure the room with a measurement mic and the eq wizzard to see what is going on in the first place, see where the peaks in low and low mids are as these are the most problematic areas in mixing.
    And then according to your calculations build or buy some mineral wool panels and place em around while measuring to get a better results.
    Just doing something blindly, can cost you time and more money.
    How long is your room anyway? If you want to hit 30hz you need a longer room, you will probably have problems with standing waves if your studio is in a small room.

    I think it's mostly a matter of getting used to it. No need to be a genius although that wouldn't hurt :winker:
    And I was talking about the bass, not about doing a full mix on headphones!
    Anyway, it's a fairy tale that most people listen to our music on high-end stereo systems with a bass response comparable to our monitoring room.
    Look at how most folks listen to music today.
    Car stereos and portable speakers have improved, quite everything else has become worse.
