I'm a metalhead so I prefer to call him Wolfgang Amadeus Palm-Mute. Poetic license man...

wavetables were necessary when digital synths first came out because there weren't good digital filters in the beginning.

wavetables will go out of style, and parameter morphing will be improved and will be next, in my view.

the reason i say this is because the benefit of a synthesizer is to synthesize, not to samplesize. You can get the exact same effect with multiple snapshot parameter morphing, unless the sound cannot be synthesized on the synthesizer you are using. and if you are playing samples on a synth, why not use a sampler instead?

so the future of wavetables will end up in samplers. like kontakt, TAL sampler, tx16wx, Halion.

I hate dealing with gigabytes of samples for a synthesizer! it's like taking the strings out of a guitar and using it as a drum.

before you rage, this is just my opinion and if you like using wavetables, great.

I personally don't understand the infatuation with wavetable synthesis. Even with wacky waveforms and being able to morph in between them, it's nothing amazing (sonically) to my ears. Good for nice evolving pads and drone stuff, I suppose....but that is a specialized application IMO.

I think a synths overall architecture is what really sets it apart.

Basic waveforms for me.. was interesting 60 years ago, still interesting today.

    To each their own
