If i decide to learn Massive X can i skip Massive?

i don't really want to learn 2 synths if there's no real reason to...

well , despite having the same name it's to different beast honnestly. apparently the new massive didn't convince so much the users of the old version. see it as different synth. as i'v seen you on the chatroom earlierand you were talking ab Calvin Harris i'd really suggest you to start with Serum then Massive first version. the new one didn't make his prove yet. serum, massive, diva, sylenth, omnisphere are rock steady instaled in the business and you will not loose your time diving into.

I'm not using massive anymore. Seems out of date compared to many other wavetable synths.

Massive X is a completely different animal. I still havent sat down and really tried to learn it, just fucked around a bit. It at least has some uniqueness

lol @relexted ....you said massive is ''out of date''

nahhh ... in music business today outdated is not the correct word...unless you are talking about the vst version date then i agree here
with you since NI stopped MASSIVE being updated where they should have make massive 6 with a bigger library ..lol
in my opinion i wouldn't call it out of date and heres why :
if i wanna do some retro/80s/90s style project then massive will be one of the ''front runners'' next to roland/arturia vsts

and do you know that none other than michael cretu (the enigma producer himself )added NI KORE 2 to his last
machine mobile system ''Merlin '',and i did see screentshots of him using massive to create the MMX ''social song''
so dont take massive very lightly my friend

you see ..any old vsts can be used at some point whether its massive/early rob papen /linplug
plugins like crx3 and 4 /delta/albino or even samples from e-jay collection
anyone remember ejay dance5/6 /i had those ..lol
(but true story :one time i had to dig deep in to e-jay samples to get certain sound and that was only last year lol )

i have to agree with the boys here, massive x and massive are not the same (i use both)

    back to you guys

Indeed, even Sylenth is still intensivaly use those day, considering it has been release in 2007.. we can almost call it a Vintage Plugin.

Of course you can. Pick a synth - or 10 - learn it, be done with it and make some music. Any complex synth can be used in a non-complex way to learn the basics, than experiment with more complex aspects, etc.
Once you know well a complex synth you will manage any synth out there fine.

Massive X is a wavetable synth more orientated to PM.
It is capable to make sounds that Massive can't.

Learn serum first if u haven't. Massive is difficult af. A few days ago u had asked why serum is not used in place of Sylenth1 if it can be made to create similar sounds. So, learn nexus first. If u find the sounds u want in it there's no reason to make that sound in serum, apply fx and waste cpu.

  11. NI Massive came out 12 years ago. MassiveX came out less than a year ago. You'll never, ever catch up with people who know what they're doing with Massive. MassiveX you stand a chance.

First thing buying only Massive or Massive X would be not very smart.

KOMPLETE 12 with Reaktor,FM8, full Kontakt and so many more is the best ... if you want the Native Instruments way. (Kontakt is the Better Nexus in my Opinion. Library for it are only $5 on Sale and there are free too) ... And the factory ones are pretty decent as well

    For Example : below $5
    https://www.pluginboutique.com/deals/show?sale_id=5882
    https://www.pluginboutique.com/prod...id-Audio-Kontakt-Instrument-Bundle-Exclusive-

    Free
    http://bigcatinstruments.blogspot.com/2014/08/gm-midi-instruments-for-kontakt.html

Then read this http://wizoobooks.com/programming_synthesizers.zip it is free (
techniques can be used with nearly every synth)

Nexus is an overpriced Beast in my opinion. Every Preset bank $60 :wtf:
Serum is nice but you can't resell it which should be considered.

Why should this be outdated. Massive is still one of the greats VST in my collection.
Only its GUI is and was never the prettiest, but it got still a great sound, it works with all my DAWs and like I always say. In some points still superior to Serum.(Still waiting for 4 Oscillators in Serum)
Main reason why I like Massive more than Serum are the Filters. Serums filters are good, but the filters on Massive it's a bit hard to explain.
They feel a bit cruncher, crisper. Specially on bass sounds Massive is my weapon of choice .

I'm a Massive fan but I hate it that NI didn't fix the 'presets in alphabetical order' issue on latest Mac OS versions like Mojave while it has been discussed on their help forum. Also, I can image why people think it's outdated - except the date of release - because of the GUI which can't be changed as far as I know. Yes, I really think that using a different and more modern GUI from time to time inspires. For example: I can't remember anymore when I used the Sylenth original (or default v3) skin for the last time. I even changed Logic Pro X a few times, but the default isn't that bad after all.

About Massive X, I dunno yet.
