I know, and you're right. And it's typical for Steve Jobs, to even copy this sentence

He was the biggest copycat. And this means it must not be a bad habit to copy ideas as long as you build something new and better when you do it.

Btw.: Leonardo da Vinci was another great copycat. In his early years he lived from copying paintings from other artists. Later on he re-invented ancient knowledge. But he adapted those inventions to the state of the art back then.
Today he would be in jail because of repeated copyright infringement

this has turned into what DAW is better thread yet again, pfffft. the best daw is the one that works for you, end of the battle!

FYI S1 was developed by former Steinberg Developers so its base is Cubase born. I've tried S1 when it came out I did 2 songs with it as well. i was amazed at how much it was like Cubase so for me. ( as a Cubase user) my issue with it has always been the final results. to my ears sounded thin and lifeless after exporting the audio tracks and importing into Cubase with the same plugins and settings and comparing. yes S1 is a bit lighter on CPU- but with modern CPUs, this really isn't an issue anymore. Again. use what you love. love what you Use. let stop debating and get back to making music

Also, another reason S1 is popular is that it's available on the sister site so there is that too :P

What is the problem about Sysex with S1,please?It doesn't work?
I like S1 and I use it with modern hardware synthesizers which communicate via midi cc and all works fine like on any other DAW.
But I'm looking some old synths like a Juno 1 or 2 for a next buy, which communicate via Sysex.

It simply doesn't work in S1. You cannot dump, program, record & play sysex with S1. I haven't tested if at least you can pass some messages via midi through (which seems logical unless S1 filters out the extra data automatically) using a mediary app like a second sequencer or midi librarian etc.
Control Change (cc) works on anything and transmited via anything since it is essential for control. Where sysex comes in is when macro control is needed and where CC falls short. So this way you can program something like i.e. When Synth1 plays an A2 note then Synth2 plays a Am7 chord and arpeggiator from Synth3 is started while your Effects module changes from reverb to a specific user programmed Delay.
    Cheers m8.
PS: I like to believe i 'm not an ahole. I will stand corrected and change my post if this by any point was fixed and i missed it. Afaik users have been asking for this since S1 v.1 and it hasn't been implemented till v.4.5. But hey look more colors, yippie! :D

I wish the three things that ST1 would copy from Cubase...
1_ Don't have to start from the beginning of the file when playback a midi file...
2_ Retrospective Recording (this is the best thing can happen for me... As I always screw up with the take that I played great previously while not recording... :)
3_ Looping without overwriting... This is pretty good too...
Actually there was something else also pretty good in this new version but I forgot...

Yeah and the color thing is not very impressive or flexible...
I own a Cubase 9,5. Yet I use ST1!... (which I also own) But I am looking at this new version very intensely...

    In Studio One:
1-You don't have to start from the beginning of the file when playback a midi file in S1,you just have to choose from several options.
3-You are not forced to looping and overwriting, you can choose from several options.(you are talking about midi,right?...Even though when recording audio you can chose to record all takes in layers.)

2-I am not sure to understand;are you talking about midi recording when you have not armed the track,a "recording capture" like in Ableton Live?..Yes it would be awesome in Studio One.Cubase has this feature too?

I have not tested it yet. I just use Cubase to load my old projects to transfer them to Studio One. The workflow that Studio One gives me is way more efficient than me using Cubase. The workflow even makes my songwriting and mixes better.
