If your budget is that low you might as well mix on Apple earbuds. Everybody has them, and if it sounds good on those it might translate to other speakers. Youll definitely have to figure out what the lowend is doing by looking at meters and A/B’ing them on real speakers though.

 

Not that low. I can at max afford the akg k52s or samson ones if on sale. All the earbuds are like zero sub bass and the mid bass region is too high. And they keep falling out of the ears. Thats a real issue

If you want the best for the price, second hand is going to be your best option. Don't be picky when you're already super limited on funds.

 

As well as the 3% harmonic distortion. These look just awful on paper and seem impossible to use for production as being waaaaay too colored to be of any use whatsoever.

 

Cheap headphones are just that. If you are trying to use them for actual studio work [non enjoyment] look for whatever has the largest freq range and the least amount of coloring. Basically the closest to flat response as possible. Even then I would never recommend cheap headphones for actual studio work. If you're just using them to write pre-mix/master then it's all based on the eq and coloring of the speakers in the headphones you like the most. So when it comes to cheap it's just what sounds best for you and the genre you tend to lean towards. Same thing goes with any headphones under $150. Until that price they're all pretty much toys. Some better than other but just how it is.

And when you do go and get REAL professional headphones bring your own stuff to test them on. Even a phone with eq off. Like Guitar Center will try to get you to plug into synths and shit that have nothing to do what you do and is misleading [mostly because guitar center hires morons in the electronic and recording departments] But when that time comes make sure you have an un mastered track and a well mastered track and then compare them with the headphones. When you're getting real things and spending 400-500 for a set of headphones It's important.

And remember headphones are made for different purposes. like my expensive mastering headphones I'd never use to enjoy listening to music. They are complete FR and separates all the instruments from each other which kills half of the enjoyment of the song, but those headphones are made to get them there not to enjoy them.

Plus half cup, full cup, ohm and freq range? It all depends.

What genre, what you are going to use them for. Because as for price Beats Audio Headphone may cost $200 but you can get chinese headphones that are made better and sound better for 10 bucks. In fact Beats Audio is laughable because even for chinese made product's they took the knock off route. All their wiring is cheap as crap and you're basically paying for colored plastic, a logo and a specific coloring of the eq and that's it. So price matters not.

And if it's for professional reasons you don't everything to sound great because it only sounds good from the coloring it would sound as good on anything else. Which is where the flat response flat eq comes into play.

So all this how good are they and comparing doesn't really matter at this price range it's all preference for your style or use. Technical things don't even matter til you get out of the toy isle.

 

I recently bought a Tascam TH02 for work and was blown away how a pair of $16.50 headphones sound so good. Comfortable too.
Very cheap but sound good. Guitar Center has them for$16.63 and they get a 4.5 star rating.

When I get back from travel outside of my country I will post to demberto my old (could use new earpads though) but still fully functioning Audio Technica M50 headphones. Case closed.

I bought the oneodio pro 10 yesterday for 1900 (approx 27usd) from amazon while on lightning deal. Thanx all but after reading post by @xoso i thought lets really not think abt brands when on such a budget. Anyways i will test them and see how they compare to my dead hd180s.

I just got to test my headphones. They are awesome! A bit more bass when hearing on phones but on PC its perfect. The 50mm drivers ensure high volume so I don't struggle to listen anymore. The bass is awesome. I can hear 20Hz quite clearly and around 60Hz it gets quite loud at full volume. The mids sound a bit lowered though on PC (when the bass is hitting high) than my mobile. The noise isolation is quite good than my previous hd 180s. I got 2 cables: one 3m and 1.2m. so broken cables wont be an issue with this one. Sometimes the reverb on mids sounds a little too harsh (I don't know how to describe that). The bass definitely sounds fat and colored as well. Sound leaks out a bit too much tho. I can hear the highs better when I hold my headphones near me.

Btw is there any EQ profile software to get a more flat sound. SW Reference doesn't support my model

Superlux HD681. They're not perfect, but neither are my ears or my mixing skills or my composition for that matter. I had the DT-880 from Beyer and I got rid of them. I wouldn't part with the Superluxes.

 

You may have never heard of KAM audio, but this guy makes a "similar" set of headphones as the Senheisser HD650., but they are closed-back.

Check out the KAM HP10 Reference Headphones and HP1 models on eBay. Around $50-95 (from "B-Stock" to New).

He also makes some pretty incredible budget mics of all sorts.
