The thing that's really strange is I think the build quality of the Neutron is actually basically on par with my Subsequent 37. Only time will tell if that's an accurate assessment but it feels solid as all hell. The knobs are kind of stiff. Some people might see that as a good thing. An extra feeling of solidity. I'm not so sure, but I don't count it against the Neutron. In fact there's at least one thing I can think of on my Sub37 that feels a little rickety (the LCD screen cover has a bit of lateral play. Just maybe a millimeter or less, but I can hear it click around if I push it back and forth).

To me the big gap in quality has to do with the firmware, the midi capabillities, the editor app, and anything else that deals with user experience outside of actually turning knobs. And of course the size and features of the synth. But for sound and build quality the neutron could hold its own with heavier hitters.

Yes an analog polyphonic synth is even better for a first synth.
