when someone uses ONLY Sylenth1 what do they really miss out on?
in terms of synth sounds?

It all depends on your needs and the genre of music you produce, but I really recommend you to try a more complete synth like Massive, Spire or Serum since they have more features for sound design like FM modulation, more effects and more filter options, any synth will have some sort of limitations and some character sound to it somehow. I started with Sylenth back then when I couldn't make my own presets, but after learned how to create my own sounds (what is pretty easy honestly) I would never exchange Serum (my weapon of choice) for Sylenth. But the key thing is to feel confortable with the synth you are working with I guess.

 

FM, wavetable, phase distortion, additive, granular, vector, etc synthesis.
Sylenth1 is purely subtractive.

 

I think many like it because of 4 things :
Simplicity
Very "Analogish" Sound (most like Virus Ti)
Hypefactor (everyone is talking about this synth)
Good support of the community (a bit similar to the point before)

But if you not use it you will miss nothing

 

Another thing that i consider made this synth so popular is the really big amount of preset packs available out there, specially in the old days. Even nowadays, most of people that I see using this synth don't use it to create sounds, just use it for the presets.

 

i agree, the synths available for Sylenth is huge. I mainly use it in my own productions.
