You need to add one more skill to your palette:. Selling.
If you are unable to trace a strategy to sell your music, this will not happen eventually.

It's OK You are entitled to your Opinion
But M telling you that even that " Getting off your Arse and doing Hard Work " also comes under " Every Step you gonna take as per your destiny " !!
There is NO FREE WILL !! So Where is the Question of You deliberately Getting off your Arse and doing hard work ? You doing that Hard Work or not is already recorded in Destiny !! And it's result as well !!
But You won't understand these things as long as you don't have a Spiritual Mind and knowledge of Consciousness.

who cares about FAME and MONEY ?.. those 2 things are crap... like coca cola and mcdonals.. it's very well know that a lot of artist live their lifes in misery..
because they are focusing in music... in his art.. not in making money.. or to be a "super star" or to appear on tv.. and all that circus.. a lot of them don't even have money to eat well.. and go to the doctor.. etc.. their minds are somewhere else.. in that other place.. but anyways.. time is the greatest teacher--

One of the problems, if not the biggest, is getting stuck on the idea: "I have to do it all on my own". All your time will go into becoming "good" at 20 things and never "great" at 1 thing. You have to decide which aspect of music stimulates you the most, and what is your strong side.

If composing is someones strong side for example.. they should spend the bulk of their time maximizing their talent at that. That's how they achieve a level of confidence that drives them to chase down people who do nothing but mix, nothing but sing/rap, nothing but promote and sell music. Just as the most famous singers/rappers don't burden themselves with composing their own music, mixing, mastering, and selling it. They focus on the one thing they do best until their level of confidence tells them they need to chase everyone down and insist it's a must they be heard. So the honest question one has to ask is "Where in music does most of my confidence lie, and how strong is it really?". That's how you discover the 1 thing you need to focus on -vs- the other things you need to disregard.

I don't know personally the OP, but I think he speaks by he's own experience.
I never thought that one day I'll be making music and playing for thousands of people every week.
In the end, it's all about luck and talent.

I think the problem is really is people do not understand is that it not what you want.. It is what the people want.
I spent more than 15 years gigging 3-4 nights a week (As a Guitarist). This only started to happen when we started to play music that people wanted to hear. As a professional working musician, every night you gig you will need to feel the audience out to find out what music works. If people don't want to listen to your music then you music sucks or your marketing to the wrong audience. Remember some of the best musicians in the world never make it famous. Just make music for the sake of making music. If your in the game only for fame. then... Good luck with that....

Whatever we say, talents, hard working, persistence and luck are definitively not enough to succeed in the music industry.
Most virtuoso pianists in classical music or jazz for example will unfortunately never be recognized.
I'm not spiritual at all, but I must admit that there is ''some'' truth in what M.V.P says about destiny ...

Anyway, be grateful for what life brings you and have fun with Music !

Haha. Who wants to be famous? It's over-rated. But gigging constantly for a major artist pays the bills, with less of a headache!
I only ever got into this (as a teenager) because I enjoy it, and I was lucky with who I got to work with, so it led on to more work. So money was a nice bonus, at first. Then it became my profession/main income, but it isn't always constant and I'll always do any other job to pay the bills AND keep my musical vocation happening! Such is my love of the medium.
If you enjoy it, just keep on doing it. Change is the only constant, so anything can happen!

The best way for me to make money (regardless of a few quid yearly from royalties from commercial tracks!) has been to get on the live circuit. Gig yo' ass off!

Indeed. And there are so many avenues to get paid/sell yourself really (regardless of selling tracks), with the skills that a lot of us pick up. eg. teaching; live engineering; dubbing for video; sound effects creation; A to D duplication; theatre-based work; dressing up like a clown and performing in a children's hospital! ;-) lol, etc...
I'm always applying my skills to other situations. Just need to think outside the box.
