Just watch this Hans Zimmer funny interview.

Clearly, he doesn't know what the topic is. He doesn't know any useful information to say. I believe he just got famous randomly, like how mainstream pop music works.

    Watch this critique:

    In short:
Mostly, his music lacks melody or anything interesting, and when you listen to his music without the film, you just figure out how uninteresting and simple it is.
He is not a bad composer, but he doesn't deserve the position he has got now.

I tend to agree. When compared to the likes of Maurice Jarre or Bernard Herrmann or even John Barry, he's pretty bland. The reasons for his popularity has always eluded me.

He is a good composer. Probably you are not in a position to criticize someone who is known to be composing soundtracks for top movies. It is a easy asf to ruin someone's character and career by releasing critics videos on internet. He absolutely did not get famous randomly. The guy has a game for supporting scenes with his compositions. Who says whoever makes better melodies is a better musician? It is all about one's interpretation. He did not even study music as university major and the success he has achieved through out his career is adorable. From what he has already exposed, he is skillful in understanding directors musical tastes when it comes to composing for different scenes in movies, this means he is really good at communicating with whoever he works with(That's something probably most composers and intellectuals lack!) If his fame was random he would have faded after composing one soundtrack, I wonder how you conclude that his success is random since he makes awesome soundtracks movie after movie.

We are all here to criticize what has killed music, and definitely he is part of it. It doesn't matter who I am, it is about what you bring to this forum other than saying someone is awesome without any logistic.
Hans Zimmer has been one of the composers that popularized just chord and percussion repetitions in the movie scoring scene, and many great composers got affected by that.

Go in the streets and ask people which one do they like more, the melody of "Star Wars" or just the BAAAAAAAM sound of Hans Zimmer.

I can see why you all prefer those other greats but Hanz is master of painting a picture with sounds that emphasize the overall message and assist in telling the story which may or may not use an intricate melody. Most of the time melodies distract from the scenes in a film but if you create a mood that emphasizes a scene in a way that adds without distracting, then you have a good movie, which is the overall goal.

damm, I thought this was going to be a bootleg of the Joker movie...

Very narrow minded of you OP.
Once you start writing, composing and doing sound design, consistently, you will realize how much work there is involved. You will also learn about humility and respect towards the art and business itself.
There is enough room where both Williams and Zimmer can coexist. You ARE allowed to enjoy both of them.

Zimmer found a niche market for the style of music he writes. Whether John Doe likes it and Jane Doe does not, that is not important.
Whether he regurgitates the same music in other films and gets paid for it is also not important.
People have been making money as 'entrepeneurs' like this for centuries.
He found a recipe that works and made a lot of money out of it. It is like Kenny G. Die-hard jazz musicians say he is not a jazz musician's ass and is nothing but instrumental pop music. That is also unimportant. He made a lot of money catering to his own niche market.

Anyone can call anyone stupid for being duped or whatever they think, however, the person they are bagging more often than not, worked out exactly how to make the money that the person calling them crap did not have the nouse to work out.

Something may well be crap, who am I to judge? Obviously, in Zimmer's case, Director's thought it was right for their movies.

EDIT - I will be clear though. If you asked me if he was as good as John Williams or Henri Mancini, or Ennio Morricone, I would say not even close. Zimmer writes memorable melodies. That is the real secret. The orchestration is a process. A bad melody is still a bad melody even with great orchestration.

Yeah most of Zimmer's stuff sounds generic and uninspired, but Pirates of the Caribbean was amazing. The guy seems to at least know what he's doing technically, which I imagine is just as important as creativity when it comes to working quickly for Hollywood blockbusters.

Threads like these are the reason this forum cant be taken seriously. Too many over accomplished producers/composers are sharing their knowledge here.
You went from how to write guitar loops in Garageband to bashing accomplished, established composers/songwriters.
    Definitely your league.

Yeah, a very useless thread indeed. Just bashing someone IMHO can't be a good reason to write something, instead you could just have asked to the community "What do you think about Hans Zimmer?" and read the comments and advises before vomit on someone who, (unless you have proof of the opposite) haven't done anything wrong to you.

In fact I think you just started this... "thing" in the hope to create a totally useless polemic and dissensions, because you're bored and alone, and have nothing better to do. Perhaps you should just make music, and forget about anything else?

For those who're enjoy real discussion and POV exchanges, here's what i like with Hans Zimmer:

1°) He invented what he called "Kinetic Music", means that his scores follows exactly what happens on screen. For example in action movies, the music is completely "glued" to the image, the scenario and the play of the actors. He knows also how to manage calm moments, because he follows closely the feelings expressed by the dialogues. It's like the music was an actor as the others. You can like it or not, but it is his philosophy.

2°) He was part of what is for me the best group of all times: Mahavishnu Orchestra. It was in the seventies, but still extraordinary today:
