I just had the thought if there is a way to have two cursors controlled by two Mouse in Windows 10 .
The point would be to easily and instantly grab any two values/faders and move them in relation to each other, like volume, pitch of two samples, eq-bands, whatever...it´s just something that doesn´t gets done as often within a daw as you do a lot with your single mouse, but it brings great results pretty quickly IMO.
I think one could just buy a left-hand mouse for that and have an easy solution instead of midi learn, making presets eg. Does anybody have some experience with this idea?

There seems to be software for it https://pluralinput.com/ but they say it still has bugs.
Don't have a second mouse at home right now and its Saturday. But by Monday I'll buy one and give it a try.

 

New mac OS enabled this option, git it while it lasts.

 

You use it? I cant see myself switching to Mac OS, just too much involved in Windows since ever.

 

Not the same, but I just commented on another thread I use a gamepad as a MIDI controller. That means two analog 2Dimensional controls (the sticks), along with the rest. Besides, as a MIDI controller having limited range (as opposed to mouse) can be a plus.

 

Might be an interesting idea to control the daw alternatively and while leaning back in the chair. Link to your comment/thread maybe?
But It wouldn´t bring the same function as a cursor, right? Would just act as another kind of midi controller.

 

Yeah, the way I use it can't move any random control in the screen.
Tough there're gamepad to mouse remappers to, say, play keyboard+mouse games in PCs with gamepads.

Alternatively, you could set up a touchscreen device as a trackpad.

I'm pretty sure this is why we have MIDI controllers.

 

You're already on the right track yourself. 3rd party software is probably the way you should go at this point. You can try the free beta ones to see if any work well enough. Having 2 arrows on the screen could be confusing: no I dont think 2 mouse could be a good idea.
For my left hand I use this:



It is bulid for video editing, but it works with any app, buttons are customizable. It is useful for audio editing in daw and makes my life easier

If the cursors are different by color or shape, i wouldn´t see a problem. I think it´s a good idea for said purpose. But in general you will have more functions and options available with your left hand when using the ShuttlePro v2, that's true.

Actually, using a 10 point multi touch screen as an auxiliary display (or even main display) is a great way to control your daw too, if your DAW supports multi touch. It's hands on all those -otherwise virtual- controls.

 

Not to off-rail this thread but I've been using Astropad (though it may be antiquated by the new macOS update and Sidecar) and it has 1:1 control over your desk/lap-top. Reaktor on my iPad is awesome.

I have 2010 and 2011 MBPs so I have to because capitalist Apple will not allow things even though they are capable, hardware-wise.

 

I do respect your decision to use macOS, in some ways i like it too, what i don't understand is why you cling on the mb pros instead of building a hackintosh, at least one for the studio.

@taskforce Respect, brother. The only reason is because all my hardware that came with with Windows and would enable hackintosh installations have all failed. Granted, they were from 2007 and before. I have a HP Pavilion that runs on hack but it serves simply as my sample farm. I am also, currently unemployed and can't really afford a new workstation

 

When you have, say... Novation Remote keyboard, Akai MPD32, Presonus Faderport, Behringer BCR2000 and BCF2000... You don't need any mouse at all. I also have a Logitech Gamepad that really comes in handy with its joysticks sometimes.

I don't like to use mouse when making music. It's useful for a lot of things when you're working *on* your computer, but when you're in "the zone" it feels just like an unavoidable nuisance. 2 of them would make it twice more a nuisance.

MIDI controllers can be such a relief for creativity.

May DAWs now have VCA. In addition, REAPER has parameter modulation & fader groups so you can link to your heart's content.

 

Thanks @flworius for the hint at pluralinput, I didn't know such software even exists.

Might be a good way to repurpose my collection of old mice:
Build four USB-connected foot switches, each pointing at a different screen position to remotely control any program that can be used with a mouse.
