I'm working with a Tanpura sound library to make a drone in the background, the Tanpura is an instrument similar to the Sitar and its timbre is heavily characterized by the presence of many resonances. Seeing the correlation meter I noticed that much of the drone sound is out of phase.
The question is this: is it normal that the resonances are out of phase? should I leave the drone untouched? thanks

 

If a freq is completely out of phase it's gone, you don't hear it anymore. So, as to my experience and knowledge, resonances can't be completely out of phase.
You can check this by a) monoing the track and see/listen if the resonannces are still there or b) using this one https://www.voxengo.com/product/correlometer/

 

Resonances and phase issues are independent. Sounds like the stereo microphone setup used when recording caused what you see.
Mono the track and see how much worse the sound gets. If there's no significant loss (except for the stereo effect of course) then leave it as-is.
If not, start with simple adjustments like tiny positive and negative delays between left and right channels.

If it is only about resonance and not about the main sound itself, perhaps you could try to tame the resonance with a de-reverberator plugin, like (for example) Ozone RX or something like that (sorry to not be more precise, the keyword to retain is "de-reverberate").

EDIT: or try to use a (slow) phaser or chorus to accentuate the dephasing, instead or trying to fight against it.

All strings instruments that use string resonance, like the sitar, will produce phase movement.
The key word is mouvement, if you see phase moving that's not only normal, that's part of the sound.
Only if you see stable phase correlation problem , then something is wrong.
