Personally, I wouldn't bother. Get a good amp head plugin and then buy some decent IR of good cabs that have already been mic'd and recorded for you. You will then have a choice of a number of top end mic's as well as different axis positions etc. You could pick up an UAD Solo PCIe card, buy the Ampeg SVT-VR plugin and then run it through an IR plugin with something like IRs from these guys and you would get more customisable and editabe sounds and spend less money than buying a hardware amp.

Also, what does "record it really proper" mean? To most, that would mean spending throusands on multiple top end microphones to mic up different speaker positions at the same time and then blend the tracks as needed etc. However, I guess that's not what you really mean, so a budget is always good when asking things like this....just a tip

You don't really need a mic if you are just laying down bass in the studio. A DI is what a zillion producers in infinite galaxies use on countless recordings. However, if you were a guitar player on say Polis Massa in a Galaxy Far Far Away, you would definitely wish for an amp (because The Force is not yet embodied in guitar amp software, but give it time as good will eventually triumph over evil).

 

yea that radials....i did reprobate DI box cause all meant its just needed for vox but i thought all the time hhmm...
