we all know this is the one true correct answer.

but also the search engine over at https://www.kvraudio.com/ is second to none! it allows you to refine down to exactly what you need, including free software.

i think we use what we have available. if weve got 10GB of space then we will fill it with plugins and libraries, but if we have 100TB we will still fill it with plugins and libraries :D

There's so much stuff at Audioz that you can easily get bogged down collecting and trying it all out. You will certainly need a lot of space GB/TB if that's what you plan to do. Eventually however, you will find what works best for you and if you are wise, you will streamline to suit your own needs. Best of luck mate and enjoy your plunge into the sweety shop of software!!

if in future your super computer gets stolen. just blame it on me. so i can return it without the hard disk obviously because that data is so important for me. obviously it is going to take me ages to download and even after that who knows how good my shi**y music turns out to be. because i don't know how music works with me.

do you want to be a big producer?

the secret of being a big producer is to make sure the folder that holds the songs you create is always bigger in gigabytes than your audio software and samples folders. your output must be bigger than your input, only then are you a big producer. compare to being a visual artist: you can have all the art supplies in the world but that will not make you the next bob ross. so give up now on searching for plugins. plugins won't make you a producer, producing will make you a producer. and have fun producing. the more fun you have producing, the more likely is that others will have fun listening to what you produce.

I'm going to argue you don't need Hans Zimmer's piano in order to make tracks.

I think the question isn't so much the actual space than the mindset behind it. Certainly you'll need tons of TBs if you are going for top notch orchestral libraries. Thing is, for a beginner, 250 gigs might be enough, and it would be advisable to limit yourself. Decent starter orchestral libraries with an OK sound go between 10 and around 100 gigs I guess? And the rest can be DAWs, samples, plugins. In the beginning, time that you spend actually working on music is far more valuable than more products on your hard drive. I learned this the hard way. Later when you know how things work, then you can branch out, and with the knowledge you have, you'll end up with far less gigabytes of stuff on your drives than if you had hoarded everything from the beginning.
