Windows 10 64 bit
Cubase Artist V8.0.40 x64

Just completed a fresh install of Windows 10 (legit) and I have installed Cubase Artist V8.0.40 from the sister site.

Previously I was running Win 7 64 bit and Cubase 5 so it is a sharp learning curve but I wanted to try a newer version of Cubase before deciding whether to buy, yes buy, the newest Cubase.

I followed the install instructions to the letter on the appropriate thread on the sister site.

When I start Cubase I get a popup box that says:
"You have not activated your Cubase Pro license yet.
You may use it for another 0 seconds.
please activate the permanent license in the eLicenser Control Center"

I am given 3 option buttons, Start Cubase Pro 8, Start Cubase Artist 8 & Start License Activation.
As I installed Cubase Artist 8 I click on that option button.

I have several questions:

1.
Cubase seems to open with a menu strip along the top of my desktop but the cubase background is transparent so I can see my desktop...
Is this supposed to happen?

2.
On the Cubase menu strip over towards the right hand side it says "Cubase Artist".
If I click on it then the normal Grey Cubase Back ground appears.
Is this normal?

3.
The install instructions on the sister site say to download lots of content from Steinberg which I did. The files look to be content for things like Allen Morgan drums, Dark Planet, Granular Guitars and lots more. This all totals to around 40 gig.

As I never use steinbergs own content (only 3rd party plugs and VSTi's) do I really need to install all of this or can I just not do it?

4.
Is there a way to stop the eLicenser popup when I first start Cubase?

Just for information:
I have opened a few of my old Cubase 5 projects and they seem to open just fine.
I have not reinstalled any 3rd party plugins or VSTi's yet but the audio files in my old projects plays back without any problems.

I do not really want to spend hours installing my plugs and VSTi's if I have to uninstall/reinstall Cubase to cure any of the problems I mention above.

Cubase artist version is a great effort of some people to Crack it. It's more than OK for testing trying and playing around and composing some music, but it's a bit unstable and has some minor problems for creating any serious projects. Cubase 5 is the most stable.
Why use artist 8 though when 10 exists....

Yeah I love Cubase 5 and would have stayed with it except it is not 64 bit and can not make use of the improvements windows 10 64 bit has over my old Windows 7.

I went for Artist 8 because 10 is not fully cracked, all I see on the sister site is revision after revision which is fine and I get why (extremely grateful and much respect to those working hard to crack it) but if I am constantly having to uninstall and the install the latest revision I would never get any work done on my songs.

So I might go for V10 once, or if, it is fully cracked ..

 

This I find funny (buy sad), if I had started a thread about which Version of Cubase is best, or is Cubase or Logic the best or even Windows V Mac, every person, their mum and their dog would be replying. I ask genuine quesions that would help me I get nothing!!!!!
