Not sure if they're supposed to sound this way but songs sound very boring (like this forum now) listening through these headphones, is this normal? Can someone explain what is happening here.

Its a more linear neutral sound compared to the hyped hifi equipment you are used to. You will get used to it.
The idea is to make it sound good on these and then it will translate good on other equipment as well.
Also the 660S treble wont extend as far as 600 and 650 so if you can, trade em for the hd600, they are far more used for music production.

 

Some headphones are tweaked with a smiley curve, some are more about actual fidelity to the sound/signal.

 

They sound neutral for a damn good reason... Go mix on Dre Beats or EarPods like Skrillex if you prefer hyped cans.

 

On my 2nd pair of 600s. 1st pair lasted me close to 15 years.

To make my actual choice, i aligned 3 pairs of cans: 1 DT880, 1 DT990... and 1 HD800.

The idea is this: brain cannot really memorize a response curve. For really appreciate / test a hp you have, after have set exactly the same perceived volume between cans, to pass quickly from one to another one, so that you hear immediately the difference between the cans.

You can use for example a headphone amplifier, or your interface, the essential is this: same music, same volume, same amplifier for the 3.

It's exactly how i realized that the Beyer ones have much higher distortion that the Sennheiser, which is (of course) the winner in terms of transparency. But also i realize that the frequency response of the DT880 is far more narrow that the DT990, in fact the DT880 seemed much centered around the mediums, the DT990 more "smiling curved"... in comparison with the other ones!

"Everything is relative", said someone. So I really think that if one have to make a crucial choice in matter of audio equipment, everyone should be able to make a comparison test, passing continuously from one device to another, this way the differences between models will appear far more clearly.

what does boring mean when describing sound?
to me, they are only as boring as the music you put through them.

 

Have you tried using a cotton bud to get rid of any earwax?

Or

how about purchasing a set of indoor fireworks to set off every time you use them? That would certainly alleviate any boredom!

I prefer to use my ears whenever possible instead of headphones because to be frank, headphones are a little bit like condoms for sound.
