I avoid freebies from software developers. A few years ago, after installing NI Free Kontakt Player it nuked my warez copy of NI Guitar Rig.
You have to wonder what their motives are and what hidden things are lurking in the background, checking up on us.

Yeah, sure if you use warez it would be prudent to be careful what you put on your system from a company or developer who has a central nexus of authorization and whatnot and install that and go online and whatnot.

They didn't nuke your wares copy of Guitar Rig... you did by not thinking properly about it.

There are some devs that do put in some stuff that goes out of their way to make it hard for people with warez etc, and we know to either sidestep them or purchase etc... but by installing an NI product legit, logging into their authorization system with your machine online imaginably etc.. without proper precautions, that's kinda on you.

I have legit Ultimate NI, but I also use some of their k'd stuff absolutely... but you have to know how to navigate those waters, as that is what we have to do if we decide we want to 'test' something before buying it etc. :) My work machines are never online except perhaps once a year or so or with a certain authorization and whatnot.. (enough that the clocks are way off the real world)... I have all my system drives cloned etc just in case etc... That's just the way it is. I'm not worried about NI or AudioDamage or whatnot lurking in the background and doing anything as a., well, there are far worse peeps then them lol, b. i don't give them the opportunity, and c. I would be more worried about what was going on with some 'releases' from some people who provide this stuff that are not of high standards like R2R etc...and so forth.
